Despite being discontinued by General Motors (GM) in the US market since January 2025, the Cadillac XT4 continues its journey in China and has even received a mid-life upgrade with a surprising price tag.

In the world’s most populous country, the luxury compact SUV, the Cadillac XT4, is offered at half the price of its home market.

Specifically, the upgraded version of the Cadillac XT4 in China starts at CNY 159,900 (approximately VND 559 million). This price is almost half of its pre-discontinuation price in the US. With this pricing strategy, Chinese consumers can own a luxurious SUV at a cost comparable to mainstream models such as the Nissan Kicks.

Even the top-of-the-line 2025 XT4 in China peaks at only CNY 189,900 (approximately VND 664 million), while the XT4 Sport AWD in the US was previously listed at a staggering USD 45,290 (approximately VND 1.17 billion).

The significant price difference between the two markets is partly due to the powertrain options. In China, the Cadillac XT4 is offered with two mild hybrid 48V engine choices. The standard version features a 1.5L turbocharged engine that delivers 211 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque. The higher-end version employs a 2.0L turbocharged engine, generating 237 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission.

Interestingly, despite the significantly lower price, the Chinese XT4 boasts modern equipment on par with its American counterpart. It features a 33-inch ultra-wide curved screen with a 9K resolution, integrating a digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment screen. Additionally, it offers a premium AKG sound system with active noise cancellation, heated/cooled/massaging seats, a heated steering wheel, and optional 20-inch alloy wheels.

Amid the increasingly competitive landscape of the luxury SUV segment in China, the aggressive pricing of the Cadillac XT4 is seen as a strategic move by GM to maintain its foothold in the world’s largest auto market. In contrast, the discontinuation of the XT4 in the US can be attributed to weak sales and a product restructuring strategy.

The substantial price discrepancy between the Chinese and American markets also highlights a global shift in the automotive industry, where manufacturers are adopting flexible pricing strategies tailored to specific markets. They are even willing to offer luxury vehicles at mainstream prices if it means gaining a competitive edge.
