After over a month of implementing the 6th auction of vehicle license plate numbers according to the Government’s Decree 156/2023/ND-CP, the Traffic Police Department reported that tens of thousands of license plates have been successfully auctioned, with a total value of nearly VND 1,600 billion.

A notable highlight of this auction was the inclusion of motorcycle license plates, allowing citizens not only to choose but also to compete for attractive license plates for their two-wheeled vehicles. The special license plates immediately attracted attention and fetched record-high prices.

Specifically, the license plate 50AA-888.88 (Ho Chi Minh City) was successfully auctioned for VND 1.455 billion, becoming one of the most expensive motorcycle license plates ever auctioned. Other plates, such as 50AA-567.89 (Ho Chi Minh City), reached VND 854 million, 29AC-666.66 (Hanoi) at VND 735 million, 95AA-222.22 (Hau Giang) at VND 603 million, and 50AB-222.22 (Ho Chi Minh City) at VND 562 million. All successful bidders have fulfilled their financial obligations and made full payments.

Running parallel to the motorcycle auctions, car license plates remained the focal point of the auctions, especially those with consecutive number sequences or quintuple numbers sought after by collectors, car enthusiasts, and dealers.

Some of the car license plates that fetched significant prices include: 35A-555.55 (Ninh Binh) at VND 3.15 billion, 15K-555.55 (Hai Phong) at VND 2.145 billion, 47A-899.99 (Dak Lak) at VND 2.075 billion, 93A-567.89 (Binh Phuoc) at VND 1.805 billion, 93A-555.55 (Binh Phuoc) at VND 1.75 billion, and 17A-567.89 (Thai Binh) at VND 1.5 billion. All individuals and organizations who won these auctions have completed their payments to the Ministry of Public Security’s dedicated account.

In summary, after more than a month (from April 8 to May 14), the 6th auction recorded more than 34,600 successful license plate auctions, totaling nearly VND 1,600 billion. This included 11,337 car license plates, contributing over VND 1,200 billion, and 23,300 motorcycle license plates, bringing in approximately VND 387 billion. These figures mark a significant step forward from previous auctions, indicating the growing demand and allure of attractive license plates in the market as the policy expands and improves.

Since the start of organizing license plate auctions under the new regulations (from September 15, 2023) until now, the total amount of money paid by successful bidders and contributed to the state budget is over VND 5,200 billion. This is a considerable source of revenue, generated by efficiently exploiting public assets, specifically the right to use vehicle license plates.
