Vietnam’s Automotive Market Dynamics in May 2025

In the compact SUV segment, the Ford Territory overtook the Mazda CX-5 to claim the top spot, attributed to clearance deals ahead of an upgraded model launch.

VinFast’s electric vehicles continued their dominance, with 3 models in the top 10 best-selling cars of the month:

VinFast VF 5: 4,232 units sold

The VF 5, an electric SUV, maintained its popularity with 4,232 units sold. Priced at 529 million VND (including battery), it’s a compelling option in the small electric vehicle category.

VinFast VF 3: 3,950 units sold

The VinFast VF 3, a mini electric SUV, followed closely with 3,950 units sold. Its compact design and affordable price of 299 million VND are creating a new market segment in Vietnam.

Ford Territory: 1,481 units sold

The Ford Territory ranked third with 1,481 units sold, benefiting from clearance promotions ahead of a new model launch. It’s currently offered in 4 versions, priced between 759 million and 889 million VND.

Mazda CX-5: 1,446 units sold

The Mazda CX-5, a longtime leader in the compact SUV segment, sold 1,446 units in May, just 35 units behind the Territory. With 7 versions and a price range of 749-979 million VND, it remains a strong contender.

VinFast VF 6: 1,393 units sold

The VF 6, another VinFast electric SUV, maintained steady sales with 1,393 units sold in May. It’s offered in 2 versions, priced at 689 million and 749 million VND, both including batteries.

Ford Ranger: 1,254 units sold

The Ford Ranger experienced a second consecutive month of sales decline, selling 1,254 units in May. While it leads the pickup truck segment, it fell out of the top 5 best-selling cars. The Ranger is offered in multiple versions, priced from 669 million to 1.299 billion VND.

Toyota Vios: 1,148 units sold

The Toyota Vios was the only traditional sedan in the top 10, selling 1,148 units. With recent upgrades, it has reaffirmed its leadership in the compact sedan segment. It’s available in 3 versions, priced from 458 to 545 million VND.

Mitsubishi Xpander: 1,100 units sold

The Mitsubishi Xpander experienced sales fluctuations, selling 1,100 units in May, lower than its peak in February. Nonetheless, it remains the top-selling small MPV. The Xpander is offered in 4 versions, priced from 560 million to 698 million VND.

Toyota Yaris Cross: 1,073 units sold

The Toyota Yaris Cross sold 1,073 units, outperforming the Mitsubishi Xforce to become the second best-selling subcompact SUV after the VinFast VF 6. It’s offered in 2 versions, priced at 650 million and 765 million VND.

Toyota Corolla Cross: 885 units sold

Rounding out the top 10 was the Toyota Corolla Cross, with 885 units sold. While it didn’t make significant strides like its competitors, its stable sales can be attributed to the full waiver of registration fees for both available versions. It’s priced at 828 million and 913 million VND in Vietnam.
