In May 2025, the Vietnamese automotive market witnessed a decline in sales figures. However, the C-segment SUVs showed positive growth, with some models experiencing a surge in sales. The Ford Territory stood out as the most surprising performer.

C-segment SUV Sales for May 2025 (units: vehicles)
Ford Territory: 1,481 units
In May, Ford sold 1,481 Territory SUVs in Vietnam, achieving impressive growth of 56.7%. This model witnessed the highest sales growth rate in the C-segment SUV category. With these results, the Ford Territory unexpectedly claimed the top spot in the segment, surpassing its rival, the Mazda CX-5. It is a rare feat for a Ford model to achieve this position.
Ford Territory
The impressive performance can be attributed, in part, to Ford’s attractive promotion offering a 100% registration fee waiver for all Territory variants, amounting to a value of up to 90 million VND. This promotion is set to continue throughout June 2025.
The Ford Territory is one of the most affordable options in the C-segment SUV market, with prices ranging from 759 to 889 million VND. Additionally, it boasts an eye-catching design, spacious interior, and a host of convenient and safety features.
Under the hood, the Territory is powered by a 1.5L EcoBoost 4-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 160 horsepower and 248 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.
This year, Ford is set to introduce an upgraded version of the Territory in Vietnam. Test runs of the upgraded model have been spotted on Vietnamese roads over the past months.
Mazda CX-5: 1,446 units
Similar to the Ford Territory, the Mazda CX-5 also experienced a successful month in terms of sales. It recorded 1,446 units sold, reflecting a growth of 2.1%. However, it relinquished its “segment leader” status to the Ford Territory.
Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-5’s strongest suit is its affordable price range, starting from 749 to 979 million VND. Recently, this C-segment SUV has been offered with significant discounts at dealerships, with the base model priced as low as 694 million VND to clear inventory of 2024 production vehicles.
Additionally, it boasts eye-catching design aesthetics and a host of convenient and safety features. It offers two gasoline engine options with displacements of 2.0L and 2.5L, producing 154 horsepower/200 Nm and 188 horsepower/252 Nm, respectively. The engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and are available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
VinFast VF 7: 773 units
According to the Vietnamese brand VinFast, 773 units of the VF 7 electric vehicle were sold in the past month. As a result, the VinFast VF 7 ranked third in the C-segment SUV category, following the Ford Territory and Mazda CX-5.
VinFast VF 7
In May 2025, VinFast offered attractive discounts of up to 198 million VND on the VF 7, which contributed to its strong sales performance.
The VinFast VF 7 is currently available in three versions in Vietnam: Eco, Plus 1-bridge, and Plus 2-bridge. The respective prices for these versions are 799 million, 949 million, and 999 million VND. Adding a panoramic sunroof as an option to the Plus versions incurs an additional cost of 20 million VND.
The Eco base model is equipped with a single electric motor that generates a maximum output of 174 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a 59.6 kWh battery, offering a maximum range of 375 km on a single charge according to the WLTP standard.
Meanwhile, the VinFast VF 7 Plus features two electric motors with a combined output of 349 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. The Plus version utilizes a 75.3 kWh battery, providing a maximum range of approximately 431 km on a single charge.
Hyundai Tucson: 531 units
Keeping up with its competitors in the segment, the Hyundai Tucson also experienced growth in sales. This South Korean model sold 531 units, reflecting a modest increase of 4.9%.
Hyundai Tucson
The Hyundai Tucson’s success formula lies in its reasonable price range, starting from 769 to 979 million VND, its distinctive design, spacious interior thanks to its large wheelbase, and a host of convenient features. It also offers a wide range of engine options.
Under the hood, the Tucson is offered with three different engine choices: the Smartstream 2.0l MPI gasoline engine, the Smartstream Diesel D2.0 engine, and the Smartstream 1.6L T-GDi turbocharged gasoline engine. These engines produce 156 horsepower/192 Nm, 186 horsepower/416 Nm, and 180 horsepower/265 Nm, respectively. They are paired with either a 6-speed automatic transmission, an 8-speed automatic transmission, or a 7-speed DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Honda CR-V: 488 units
Ranking fifth in the C-segment SUV category is the Honda CR-V. With 488 units sold, it achieved a growth rate of 12.7%. The Honda CR-V was the best-selling model for the brand in May, outperforming its sibling, the City.
Honda CR-V
For June 2025, Honda is offering a 50% registration fee discount for the G and L 2WD versions of the CR-V. The respective values of these discounts are 51 million and 55 million VND. Additionally, the 2024-produced CR-V e:HEV RS is offered with a one-year Honda brand insurance package and a fixed interest rate of 3.9% for the first 12 months. Overall, compared to some competitors in the segment, the Honda CR-V’s promotions are less attractive.
The Honda CR-V has one of the highest price tags in the segment, ranging from 1.029 to 1.259 billion VND. However, it appeals to Vietnamese customers with its attractive design and features.
Additionally, the Honda CR-V is one of the few models in the C-segment SUV category to offer a hybrid powertrain. Specifically, the Honda CR-V e:HEV RS is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 146 horsepower, coupled with two electric motors with a combined output of 181 horsepower. The total power output is 204 horsepower, and it delivers 335 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the remaining three versions of the Honda CR-V are powered by a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine that generates 188 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and is available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Kia Sportage: 175 units
In contrast to its competitors, the Kia Sportage experienced a decline in sales during May 2025. With only 175 units sold, it witnessed a decrease of 4.89%, retaining its second-to-last position in the C-segment SUV category.
Kia Sportage
For June 2025, Kia is offering official discounts of up to 40 million VND on the Sportage, which is relatively modest compared to competitors such as the Honda CR-V, Ford Territory, Hyundai Tucson, and Subaru Forester.
The Kia Sportage is currently available in Vietnam with six versions, and its price range has become more competitive, starting from 819 to 999 million VND. However, the high initial pricing and a design that may not appeal to the masses have impacted its sales performance.
The Kia Sportage is powered by the same three engine options as the Hyundai Tucson, which is not surprising given that they are both produced by the Hyundai Motor Group.
Mitsubishi Outlander: 34 units
Ranking last in the C-segment SUV category is the Mitsubishi Outlander. With only 34 units sold, it experienced a decline of 29.1%. This performance placed the Mitsubishi Outlander among the top 10 worst-selling vehicles in Vietnam for May 2025.
Mitsubishi Outlander
In recent months, Mitsubishi has discontinued promotional programs for the Outlander, which has likely impacted its sales figures. Additionally, the Outlander’s pricing, which ranges from 825 to 950 million VND, and its dated design and features have not enticed buyers.
The Mitsubishi Outlander is currently offered with a single engine option in Vietnam: the 2.0L MIVEC 4-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 145 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque. It is paired with a CVT transmission.
