The luxurious Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV range has taken a giant leap forward with the introduction of its first all-electric model, yet the brand has conservatively retained the familiar design of this iconic off-roader.
Named the Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ, available in two variants – standard and special limited edition, one would expect this electric vehicle to surge in sales. However, even in the massive Chinese market, this electric car has not gained popularity.
In the Vietnamese market, only two units of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ have been imported so far, and their fate doesn’t seem to differ much from other markets, as sales executives continuously post advertisements in various new and used car trading groups.
This particular Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ is the Edition One variant, officially priced at 8.68 billion VND. The car is finished in blue and features a special package exclusive to the Edition One models. Additional design packages such as the AMG Line, Night Package & MANUFAKTUR Logo Package with black “G” logos are also included.
Other highlights include the optional Black Panel grille, a slightly raised bonnet, air vents on the rear wheel arches, and exclusive 20-inch AMG sports alloy wheels for the G 580 EQ Edition One. The MANUFAKTUR design package comes with a welcome logo and black door handles with embossed logos.
Inside, the G 580 EQ showcases a blend of advanced technology and exquisite craftsmanship. The Edition One features the SUPERIOR Line design package, Nappa leather upholstery in pearl grey and black with distinctive blue stitching, and Active Multicontour Seat Plus with Energizing Plus package, offering various integrated massage programs, 3-level seat heating, and seat ventilation for the front passengers.
Other notable features of this luxury electric SUV include MANUFAKTUR grey magma seat belts, multi-color interior ambient lighting, the latest MBUX infotainment system, a Burmester 3D surround sound system with 18 speakers and 760 watts of power, and the G-Roar sound simulation system for an exhilarating driving experience.
The heart of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 EQ Edition One is its four independent electric motors, delivering a combined output of 432 kW (587 hp) and a staggering 1,164 Nm of torque. Furthermore, a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the chassis lowers the center of gravity and provides a range of 434 – 473 km on the WLTP cycle.
Modern technologies such as G-TURN mode (enabling a 360-degree turn on the spot on soft or uneven terrain), G-STEERING mode (significantly reducing the turning radius during off-road driving), and Off-road Crawl function (similar to cruise control but designed specifically for rough terrain) are also equipped in this electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Lastly, the G 580 EQ boasts impressive off-road capabilities with a 45-degree climbing angle, 850 mm water wading depth, and a 360-degree camera with an innovative transparent bonnet view, allowing the driver to see what’s directly under the vehicle.
