BMW is meticulously refining the next generation of its luxury SUV, the X5, with significant enhancements to its aesthetics, interior, and powertrain, gearing up for its debut in 2027.
The new BMW X5, with the internal code G65, will seamlessly blend traditional heritage with modern design sensibilities inspired by the Vision Neue Klasse concept.
Based on the available sketch images, the most notable design evolution is evident in the front end, where BMW has refreshed the lighting and grille with a futuristic approach, while also refining the overall proportions to project a more robust image. Although not a radical transformation, the new X5 exudes contemporary elegance with a sharper aesthetic.
The vehicle’s dimensions will see a slight increase, paving the way for the introduction of a pure electric iX5 variant. Initially, BMW will focus on mild hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions, such as the xDrive50e and M60e, powered by a 3.0L gasoline engine combined with a new-generation electric motor for improved performance and extended EV range. The xDrive all-wheel drive is expected to be standard.
The BMW X5’s interior is also undergoing a transformation, with BMW experimenting with a split-screen layout instead of the previous curved arrangement. The SUV is likely to employ the BMW Operating System X software platform, offering enhanced digital experiences and customization options. A dedicated screen for the front passenger may also be introduced, keeping up with the latest tech trends in the premium SUV segment.
Even though the official launch is a few years away, the leaked sketches and details already hint at a futuristic SUV that will surpass global market expectations. With its expanded electrification portfolio, the BMW X5 2027 is poised to be a formidable rival to the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Range Rover Sport in the post-transition era of electric vehicles.
