The MG5 has recently been unveiled for the 2025 model year, featuring some design and equipment upgrades as a gentle evolution before the end of its product cycle.

The MG5 2025 introduces two new exterior colors, Bubble Orange and Andes Grey, appealing to younger customers who prefer a bold look.

Compared to the MG5 currently sold in Vietnam, this new version sports a more athletic and daring design. The front bumper is widened with large air intakes and sharp styling, while the headlights are more aggressively styled. At the rear, the taillights are seamlessly stretched, and the rear bumper is enhanced with faux air vents and a body-colored diffuser, adding to its muscular stance.

These changes give the MG5 2025 a significantly different appearance compared to the version offered in Vietnam, which leans towards a softer, more conventional look rather than a sporty one.

The interior of the MG5 2025 also sees notable revisions. The controversial asymmetrical design has been replaced with a traditional symmetrical layout, making it more familiar and accessible.

It boasts an upgraded Hi-Fi audio system with eight speakers positioned around the cabin and a 40Hz subwoofer, promising a more immersive and vibrant acoustic experience. This enhancement is a significant step up from the standard system in the previous model.

Additionally, the MG5 2025 introduces an interior ambient lighting system with 256 customizable color options. The lighting can dynamically change colors based on the music or ambient light, adding a personalized touch to the driving experience.

The MG5 2025 boasts a modern aesthetic with two 12.3-inch screens seamlessly integrated into the dashboard—one for the digital instrument cluster and the other for the central infotainment system. The central control panel has been refined, reducing physical buttons and incorporating chrome accents around the air vents. The new electronic gear selector further complements the minimalist and trendy interior style.

Under the hood, the MG5 continues to offer two familiar engine options. The first is a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine producing 129 horsepower and 158 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT simulating 8 gears. The second is a 1.5L turbocharged engine generating 181 horsepower and 285 Nm of torque, coupled with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.

According to the manufacturer, the fuel consumption figures stand at 6.38L/100km for the 1.5L variant and 6.45L/100km for the turbocharged version, as per the WLTC standard.

While the MG5 in China receives frequent updates, the version sold in Vietnam remains unchanged. This reflects MG’s long-term strategy in the domestic market, focusing on competitive pricing over frequent product refreshes.

In fact, the MG5 is a rare offering in the C-segment sedan category, priced lower than many A-segment models. This pricing strategy, combined with aggressive dealer promotions, has allowed MG5 to maintain acceptable sales figures despite intense market competition. The lack of significant upgrades to the model further underscores the brand’s commitment to a long-term strategy in Vietnam.
