This year’s GIIAS exhibition in July is expected to showcase an entirely new Subaru SUV.
At a press conference on June 24, Mr. Arie Christopher, CEO of Subaru Indonesia, hinted at an upcoming model: “There will be a new car. Subaru cannot reveal specifics, but we believe people can guess.”
Accompanying the speech was a slide showing distinctive headlights, resembling those of the sixth-generation Subaru Forester, which had previously been launched globally. Although there has been no official confirmation, this is likely to be the centerpiece of Subaru’s GIIAS 2025 exhibit.
Based on configurations offered in other markets, the 2025 Forester may be introduced in three versions: X-Break, Premium, and Sport. The Sport version offers a sporty, individual style, the Premium version focuses on urban convenience, and the X-Break version comes with a range of features for off-road performance.
In international markets, the sixth-generation Forester will offer two powertrain options: a 1.8L turbocharged gasoline engine and a self-charging hybrid system. The hybrid technology is shared with Toyota, but Subaru retains its core values, including the boxer engine and the symmetrical AWD system, which sets the brand apart in the SUV segment.
Not only the exterior but also the interior of the new Forester in international markets has undergone significant upgrades. Subaru offers a range of dealer-installed accessories, such as aluminum pedals, water-repellent seat covers, door sills, sunshades, and cargo area amenities like multi-purpose hooks, which are extremely useful for outdoor activities like camping, mountain climbing, or fishing on weekends.
These improvements are expected to enhance the Forester’s competitiveness in the C-segment SUV market, where rivals such as the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage already have a strong presence.
Although Subaru has not confirmed the introduction of the new Forester in Vietnam, it is entirely possible that this SUV will enter the market in the coming time. However, the biggest obstacle may be the price, as the Forester will still be imported from Japan, making it less price-competitive compared to rivals assembled locally or imported from ASEAN countries.
