On June 26, 2025, Xiaomi made waves in the automotive industry by officially launching its highly anticipated second electric vehicle, the YU7 SUV, in Beijing. Just 3 minutes into the sale, Xiaomi announced an impressive feat: the YU7 had clocked 200,000 in sales. This number surged to 289,000 after the first hour, showcasing an incredible response from customers. To put this into perspective, the YU7’s one-hour sales figure equaled half of the total vehicle sales in Vietnam for the entire previous year.

Xiaomi YU7’s 1-Hour Sales Equal Half of Vietnam’s Annual Vehicle Sales

As previously reported, Chinese customers could reserve the electric SUV by placing a deposit of 5,000 yuan (approximately 17.5 million VND). These orders would be held for a fixed period of 7 days. Those who acted swiftly and placed a deposit of 20,000 yuan (around 70 million VND) were prioritized, with their orders immediately confirmed, and given early delivery as Xiaomi had a small number of nearly completed vehicles ready for shipment.

CEO Lei Jun predicted that the demand for the YU7 would be three times that of Xiaomi’s first car, the SU7. In the Chinese market, the sales ratio of SUVs to sedans currently stands at approximately 3:1.

When the Xiaomi SU7 was launched on March 28, 2024, it garnered 50,000 orders in just 27 minutes and nearly 90,000 orders within the first 24 hours. This overwhelming response led to a near sell-out for the year due to limited production capacity at Xiaomi’s Beijing factory. From its launch in March 2024 to May 2025, the Xiaomi SU7 delivered over 272,000 vehicles.

In the Chinese market, the Xiaomi YU7 is offered in three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max, with prices ranging from 253,000 to 329,900 yuan (approximately 887 million to 1.15 billion VND). This positions it as a strong competitor to the Tesla Model Y, the best-selling car in China in 2024, which starts at 263,500 yuan for the rear-wheel-drive version. The Xiaomi YU7 undercuts its rival by about 10,000 yuan.

Xiaomi YU7 Offers a More Affordable Option Compared to Tesla Model Y

The Standard version boasts the longest range of up to 830 kilometers under the CLTC standard, thanks to its 96.3 kWh LFP battery. This rear-wheel-drive variant is powered by a single electric motor that delivers up to 315 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.88 seconds.

The Pro variant is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The rear motor is the same 235 kW unit found in the Standard version, while the front motor adds an extra 130 kW. This setup results in a combined output of 489 horsepower. The Pro shares the same 96.3 kWh battery as the Standard but offers a slightly reduced range of 770 kilometers.

The range-topping Max variant also features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, but with a more powerful combined output of 681 horsepower and 866 Nm of torque. This high-performance version can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds. It utilizes a higher-energy-density 101.7 kWh NMC battery, providing a range of 760 kilometers.

Xiaomi YU7 Boasts an Impressive Maximum Range of 830 Kilometers

The Xiaomi YU7 is a 5-door, 5-seat SUV built on the Modena platform. Its dimensions stand at 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.

All variants of the YU7 employ Xiaomi’s 800V high-voltage architecture. The battery supports ultra-fast charging at 5.2C with a maximum power of 528 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. A quick 15-minute charge can add up to 620 kilometers of range.

The Spacious and Modern Interior of the Xiaomi YU7

The Xiaomi YU7 is poised to give the Tesla Model Y a run for its money, along with other competitors like the BYD Sealion 07, Zeekr 7X, Onvo L60, and Xpeng G7. In recent months, the Tesla Model Y has shown signs of slowing sales. From January to May 2025, its sales in the Chinese market dropped by 24% compared to the same period last year. The arrival of the Xiaomi YU7 only adds to the challenges faced by the Tesla Model Y.
