Ford Vietnam has announced a recall for Ford Explorer vehicles produced between January 20, 2019, and July 25, 2023, to update the software for the image processing module and calibrate the 360-degree camera system.

Ford Vietnam did not specify the exact number of vehicles affected. The recall documents state that in rare cases, when reversing or selecting the 360-degree view mode (at low speeds), the SYNC screen on the affected Explorer vehicles may display a blue streak or the entire screen may turn blue/black, resulting in an inaccurate display of the rearview camera image.

This issue may recur in subsequent ignition cycles and increase the risk of collision when backing up. Ford attributed the problem to the IPMB software not being updated correctly in the previous program.

The software update and calibration of the 360-degree camera system on the affected Explorer vehicles take less than half a workday. The remedy for the recalled Explorer vehicles can be carried out at home, free of charge.

In Vietnam, the Ford Explorer is currently the only model imported directly from the US by the company. This E-segment SUV is offered in a single variant, priced at VND 2.099 billion.

The high price tag makes the Ford Explorer a less popular choice in Vietnam. In 2022, Vietnamese customers purchased a total of 689 Ford Explorer vehicles, while sales in the first four months of this year reached 120 units.

The Ford Explorer’s competitors in Vietnam include the Volkswagen Teramont (VND 2.138 billion), Volkswagen Teramont X (VND 1.998-2.168 billion), Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (VND 3.46-3.48 billion), and Hyundai Palisade (VND 1.469-1.589 billion).
