The highly anticipated Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV has officially launched at an event in Beijing, China, and it’s already creating a buzz.
Within just three minutes of the announcement, the number of pre-orders for this vehicle soared to 200,000. An impressive feat, and after an hour, the figure climbed to 289,000 orders, setting a new record for the Xiaomi electric car brand.
Prospective owners of the YU7 have the option to choose between two deposit amounts: a refundable 5,000 NDT (approximately 18.20 million VND) or a non-refundable 20,000 NDT (around 72.81 million VND) which comes with priority delivery. Xiaomi has stated that they already have a batch of vehicles ready for immediate delivery following the official sale.
YU7 marks Xiaomi’s first foray into the electric SUV market. The vehicle is offered in three distinct variants, with prices ranging from 253,500 to 329,900 NDT (equivalent to 922.89 million to 1.2 billion VND).
Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, expressed his optimism that the YU7 will surpass the sales of the SU7 electric sedan by a factor of three, attributing this to the rising popularity of SUVs in China. This prediction holds weight when considering the success of the Xiaomi SU7, which, upon its launch in March 2024, garnered 50,000 pre-orders within 27 minutes and a total of 90,000 orders in the first 24 hours. As of now, over 272,000 SU7s have been delivered to Chinese customers.
Flashback to the launch of the Xiaomi SU7 on March 28, 2024, when the company revealed that they had received an astonishing 50,000 pre-orders within the first 27 minutes, with the number climbing to 90,000 in the initial 24 hours.
With such a promising start, the Xiaomi YU7 is poised to be a significant driver of growth for the Chinese tech giant’s electric vehicle division in 2025.
