Six months after its initial launch in Europe, the all-new Mazda 6e electric sedan has arrived at showrooms in the region. Mazda is renowned for its beautifully designed vehicles in the affordable segment, and the 6e may be the most impressive sedan the brand has ever produced.

Mazda 6e Electric Sedan

Mazda’s new electric sedan is now on sale in Europe.

In the European market, the Mazda 6e is exclusively offered as a pure electric sedan. Unlike in China, there is no extended-range version available, at least not at the moment.

In Germany, the base Takumi trim starts at €44,900 (approximately $49,000). The Takumi Plus trim, which includes features such as a panoramic sunroof, wood trim, and Nappa leather upholstery, is priced at €46,900 (around $51,200).

The pricing of the Mazda 6e has attracted attention due to being double the price of the same car in China. Known as the Mazda EZ-6 in China, this vehicle is extremely competitively priced in the local market, ranging from CNY 159,800 to CNY 181,800 (approximately €20,700 to €23,600 or $22,500 to $25,500), depending on the trim level.

This significant price discrepancy highlights the extremely competitive positioning of the Mazda EZ-6 in China. In contrast, European buyers are paying a premium for what is essentially the same vehicle.

Mazda 6e Price Comparison

The Mazda 6e is priced twice as high in Europe compared to China.

Interestingly, the Mazda 6e has a higher starting price than the Tesla Model 3. In Germany, the Tesla offering is priced from €39,990 to €58,490 (approximately $43,600 to $63,800).

The 6e is not a vehicle that Mazda developed independently. Beneath its attractive exterior lies a platform shared with a Chinese partner, Changan, on which the vehicle is built.

Not only does the Mazda 6e have impressive exterior styling, but it also boasts a meticulously crafted interior. While some may find it simplistic, it features a beautifully designed steering wheel, a prominent center console that exudes a sense of premium quality, a large infotainment screen, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and soft Alcantara and leather upholstery.

The Mazda 6e in Europe is currently offered in two main configurations. The standard model features a 68.8 kWh battery that delivers a maximum range of 479 kilometers. It has a rear-mounted electric motor producing 255 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque.

While the range is sufficient for daily commutes, Mazda also offers a Long Range version with an 80 kWh battery, increasing the range to 552 kilometers.

Mazda 6e Long Range

The Mazda 6e has a maximum range of 552 kilometers.

Interestingly, the Long Range model has a slightly less powerful motor, producing 242 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. Both versions can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under eight seconds and have a top speed of 175 km/h.

A key concern for electric vehicle users is charging speed. The 68.8 kWh battery supports fast DC charging with a maximum charging power of 200 kW, enabling a quick charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. Oddly, the Long Range version is significantly slower, limited to 95 kW charging power, requiring approximately 45 minutes for the same charging cycle.

While other electric vehicles may offer more advanced technology or slightly better specifications, emotions often play a significant role in purchasing decisions. Mazda’s captivating design could be the deciding factor for buyers who are considering a sedan over an SUV.
