The Mercedes-AMG One is one of the most exclusive and challenging-to-acquire supercars from Mercedes-Benz. Becoming one of the 275 customers to own this vehicle entails meeting stringent criteria, aside from the minimum price tag of $2.8 million, excluding options, fees, and transportation costs.
Despite the limited production of 275 units and a pre-tax price of $2.8 million, the Mercedes-AMG One has made its presence known in China. At least one of these cars has been spotted on the roads of Hangzhou.
The allure of the Mercedes-AMG One lies in its moniker as a street-legal race car. It boasts a plug-in hybrid powertrain, comprising a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine and four electric motors, delivering a combined output of 1,049 horsepower.
The internal combustion engine contributes 566 horsepower, while each of the two electric motors on the front axle produces 322 horsepower. A third motor, integrated with the engine, adds another 161 horsepower, and a fourth motor, attached to the turbocharger, provides an extra 121 horsepower. Additionally, the Mercedes-AMG One is equipped with an 8.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, all-wheel drive, and can cover 18 kilometers on electric power alone.
This supercar accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 352 km/h. Notably, the Mercedes-AMG One faced a five-year delay due to production and component issues, finally launching in 2022.
Step inside the Mercedes-AMG One, and you’ll once again be reminded of its racing pedigree. The deep-set seats provide a snug fit, allowing the driver to stretch their legs comfortably. The rectangular steering wheel is reminiscent of Formula 1 cars, and a digital instrument cluster with a 10-inch screen sits in front of the driver.
Of course, the Mercedes-AMG One still offers the amenities of a commercial vehicle, including an infotainment screen, air conditioning vents, and a sound system.
Completing the interior are leather and carbon fiber trim, and cameras that replace traditional side-view mirrors. However, in countries where regulations do not permit this, the German automaker can provide conventional mirrors, as seen on the car spotted in Hangzhou.
