The upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS 2025), set to kick off later this month, will play host to an exciting reveal by Daihatsu: their first-ever electrified vehicle. This information was divulged by a Daihatsu sales representative.
According to the source, the electrified vehicle in question is none other than the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid, currently available in the Japanese market. Interestingly, this model was previously showcased at the GIIAS in both 2022 and 2024.
Upon its arrival in Indonesia, the vehicle is expected to be priced around 300 million Rupiah (approximately 474 million VND). This positions the vehicle in direct competition with the Suzuki Fronx Hybrid, a newly introduced small SUV in the Indonesian market, in terms of both segment and price.
The Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid will go up against the Suzuki Fronx.
The Suzuki Fronx, in the Indonesian market, is priced between 276 and 319.9 million Rupiah (roughly 436 to 505 million VND). It is also the only model in its segment to feature hybrid engine technology.
“The estimated price is around 300 million Rupiah. The on-the-road price is not yet available and will be officially announced at the GIIAS launch,” shared a Daihatsu dealership sales representative with a local journalist on July 19, 2025.
Not only has Daihatsu provided pricing information, but they have also started accepting reservations for the Rocky Hybrid. Customers need only put down a deposit of 2 million Rupiah (approximately 3 million VND) to secure their spot for the SUV twin of the Toyota Raize. “The reservation fee is 2 million Rupiah,” the salesperson added.
Under the hood, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid boasts a WA-VEX gasoline engine with an in-line three-cylinder configuration, displacing 1.2L, and generating a maximum output of 80 horsepower and 105 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an e-Smart Hybrid system, functioning as a generator, that supplies power to a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor mounted on the front axle. The electric motor delivers a maximum output of 104 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque.
Daihatsu claims that this small SUV achieves an impressive fuel economy of 28 km/liter (approximately 3.57 liters/100 km). The 4.3 Ah lithium-ion battery is strategically placed beneath the rear seats.
The Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid sips fuel at a rate of just 3.57 liters per 100 km.
Another standout feature is the Smart Pedal (S-PDL) function, which allows drivers to operate the vehicle using just one pedal, similar to a pure electric car. When the accelerator is released, the car automatically decelerates and comes to a stop without the need for brake pedal input.
Aside from the engine, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid remains largely unchanged from its conventional gasoline-powered counterpart. From the headlights and taillights to the grille and decorative details, everything has been retained. The only discernible differences are the “e-Smart Hybrid” logo on the rear hatch and the Daihatsu logo with a green accent, signifying the hybrid model.

The Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid comes well-equipped with features such as a digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, auto brake hold function, 100V power outlet, pre-collision warning system, pre-collision braking, throttle control, front vehicle departure alert, lane departure warning, and lane departure prevention.

With its competitive pricing, fuel-efficient hybrid technology, and modern features, the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid is poised to be a formidable contender against the Suzuki Fronx Hybrid in the small SUV segment in Indonesia. The GIIAS 2025 will serve as the official launchpad for this exciting new model, and it is sure to garner significant attention from the market.
It remains unclear whether Toyota has plans to introduce a similar hybrid variant of the Raize in Indonesia or Vietnam in the future. However, with the introduction of the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid, such a possibility cannot be ruled out.
