After a prolonged absence from the market, the Volkswagen Golf hatchback is set to make its comeback to Vietnam through official distributors.
This information has been confirmed by Volkswagen Vietnam, with dealerships revealing that the launch could take place as early as September.
The Volkswagen Golf will be officially distributed in Vietnam for the first time, marking a shift from its previous entry through unofficial importers. The car is expected to be offered in four versions, with prices starting from over VND 1.2 billion for the base model and going up to approximately VND 2.3 billion for the highest trim.
According to dealership sources, the Volkswagen Golf will feature three engine options. The base model is likely to be the Golf R-Line, powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine that produces 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.
The second option is a 2.0L turbocharged engine that generates 245 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, paired with front-wheel drive.
The third option is also a 2.0L turbocharged engine but with an increased output of 351 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, coupled with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. This variant will rival the Civic Type R.
Despite being categorized in the C-segment, the Volkswagen Golf is significantly smaller than its competitors, such as the Honda Civic. Its dimensions measure 4,282 mm in length, 1,789 mm in width, and a wheelbase of 2,636 mm. However, the Golf excels in its driving dynamics and sports a sleek, European-inspired design.
All Golf variants in Vietnam will be offered exclusively in the hatchback body style. The R-Line, along with the GTI models, boast a sporty aesthetic with a large grille, 18 to 19-inch alloy wheels, and sharp contours reminiscent of the Tiguan Allspace SUV.
The interior of the Golf is expected to be a significant upgrade compared to other Volkswagen models currently available in Vietnam. The cabin features two digital displays: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and a 12-inch central touchscreen that resembles a tablet. The sports seats with integrated headrests evoke a sense of performance. Detailed specifications are anticipated to be officially announced by Volkswagen Vietnam on July 21st.
The arrival of the official Volkswagen Golf is exciting news for automotive enthusiasts, especially those who favor European driving dynamics. However, with a starting price of over VND 1.2 billion, the Golf may face challenges in competing with Japanese rivals in the same segment, such as the Honda Civic and Mazda3.
