Ford has unveiled the third member of the Bronco family in China, named the Bronco New Energy. While bearing a resemblance to the Bronco Sport, this new model offers significant differences.

All-Electric or Extended-Range Powertrain

Unlike the Bronco versions in the US that lack a true electrification option, the Chinese Bronco New Energy is offered with a choice of an all-electric or a range-extended powertrain.

The all-electric variant delivers an impressive 271 horsepower, while the range-extended version combines a 1.5L engine with an electric motor, producing a total of 241 horsepower. Both models feature front-wheel drive, marking a departure from the standard four-wheel drive offered on US Broncos.

The extended-range model is equipped with a 43.7 kWh battery, offering an all-electric range of approximately 220 km, which can be extended to 1,220 km with a full tank of gas. The all-electric version, on the other hand, boasts a larger 105.4 kWh battery, enabling a maximum range of 650 km on a single charge.

Bronco Styling with Larger Dimensions

The Bronco New Energy borrows design cues from the Bronco Sport, already available in China. Its flush door handles and overall styling might lead some to believe it’s a mid-cycle refresh. However, its dimensions tell a different story.

With a wheelbase of 2,950 mm, it matches the US Bronco four-door and significantly surpasses the Bronco Sport’s 2,670 mm. Its overall length stretches to 5,025 mm, longer than both the Bronco (4,810 mm) and Bronco Sport (4,400 mm).

The width has also been substantially increased, surpassing even the widened Bronco Wildtrak variant. The weight is equally impressive, with the range-extended model weighing in at 2,510 kg and the all-electric version tipping the scales at 2,630 kg. In comparison, the US-spec Bronco Raptor weighs 2,240 kg, and the lightest Bronco Sport is a mere 1,590 kg.

Modern Features and Competitive Pricing

Images released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveal a Lidar sensor on the roof, a feature not seen on any Ford model produced in the US.

The Bronco New Energy is a collaboration between Ford and Jiangling Motors, and it is expected to be priced between 300,000 and 400,000 Chinese yuan (approximately 1.7 to 2.3 billion VND). This pricing positions it closer to the standard Bronco rather than the smaller Bronco Sport.
