A serious accident occurred in Austria involving a limited-edition Porsche Carrera GT that veered off a road and plunged into a ravine while traversing the Alps.

The Carrera GT with German license plates, carrying two Singaporean citizens, suddenly lost control while navigating a mountainous road in the Strobl area of Austria. The car veered off the road and plummeted down a steep embankment into a forested area, becoming entangled in the trees.

Local firefighters and rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the two occupants with minor injuries. However, retrieving the supercar from the crash site proved challenging due to the dense forest and intricate terrain.

To extricate the vehicle without further damaging its unique carbon monocoque structure (a one-piece chassis made of carbon fiber), the rescue team had to cut down several large trees and employ specialized cranes.

The entire operation to rescue the Carrera GT lasted over three and a half hours and was described as “extremely intricate and technically demanding,” as the team worked meticulously to protect the integrity of the car’s body, which, unlike conventional metal bodies, cannot be easily repaired.

Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the property damage was extensive. According to classic car restoration experts, repairing the damaged carbon fiber body is nearly impossible, which means the owner will likely have to replace the entire body and chassis, incurring costs upwards of a million dollars depending on the vehicle’s condition.

Porsche Carrera GT is an evolution of the concept unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2000 and was once Porsche’s iconic “halo car.” Although Porsche initially planned to produce 1,500 units, only 1,270 were completed before production ceased in 2006 due to changing airbag regulations in the United States.

The vehicle involved in the Austrian accident boasts a rare Fayence Yellow exterior, a color bestowed upon only 89 Carrera GTs ever produced.

Under the hood, this supercar is powered by a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, generating 612 horsepower and 590 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.
