On its official website, Honda Vietnam announced a recall of over 220 units of the Honda Gold Wing and Honda CBR1000RR due to the potential risk of fuel pump diaphragm swelling.

According to Honda Vietnam’s announcement, the recall affects 147 units of the Honda Gold Wing manufactured between October 2017 and March 2023, along with 74 units of the Honda CBR1000RR manufactured between September 2017 and September 2020. All affected vehicles were directly imported from Japan by Honda Vietnam.

Honda Vietnam confirmed that, as of now, the company has not received any reports or complaints from customers regarding the fuel pump diaphragm swelling issue. However, in the interest of customer satisfaction and safety, the Japanese automaker has decided to invite the 221 owners of the aforementioned Gold Wing and CBR1000RR models to their dealerships for inspection and necessary repairs.

Honda Vietnam’s recall announcement confirmed that, in the event of a failure related to the fuel pump diaphragm swelling, customers may experience difficulty starting the engine or even sudden engine stalling while the vehicle is in motion.

The issue is attributed to a change in the manufacturing process, which can cause the fuel pump diaphragm to deform and get stuck. This, in turn, prevents the pump from delivering fuel to the engine, resulting in hard starting or engine stalling.

All affected Gold Wing and CBR1000RR units will undergo inspection and necessary part replacements by Honda Vietnam to ensure their quality. The company will also offer inspection and replacement support for similarly-designed products that are not imported and officially distributed by Honda Vietnam.

The inspection and part replacement process will commence from around May 2024, with an estimated total service time of 66 minutes, including technical processing and pre-delivery vehicle inspection. Honda Vietnam will carry out this procedure free of charge for all 221 affected vehicle owners.

Specifically, for Honda Gold Wing owners, Honda Vietnam announced that, starting March 26, customers can bring their vehicles to DreamWing and HEAD dealerships for inspection and confirmation of the necessity of part replacement. The estimated inspection time is 16 minutes.

In Vietnam, the Honda Gold Wing is priced at 1,231 billion VND. Meanwhile, the Honda CBR1000RR has a starting retail price of over 950 million VND.
