The Vietnamese motorcycle market remained relatively sluggish before and after the Tet holiday. However, the actual selling prices of many scooter models are showing contrasting trends, not all of them are decreasing.

Honda Vision and Air Blade Witness Price Hike

According to a survey by Tri Thuc Znews, the actual selling prices of the Honda Vision’s variants in Ho Chi Minh City range from VND 31.49 million to VND 37.29 million, depending on the version. These prices are VND 376,000 to VND 875,000 higher than those suggested by Honda Vietnam.

Nevertheless, the number of vehicles available at dealerships is quite limited. According to sales consultants, the Honda Vision Standard version is currently sold out, similar to the Special version.

For the Sports version of this model, only two color options are available: Black and Gray. As for the Premium version, customers can only choose White if they purchase the scooter at this time.

The Honda Air Blade 160 is now only available in the Standard version at this dealership, priced at VND 57.69 million, which is about VND 2 million higher than the listed price. Customers can choose between Red and Green if they opt for the Air Blade 160 Standard version.

The variant with a 125cc engine of the Honda Air Blade currently costs VND 41.79 million for the Standard version and VND 43.89 million for the Special version. Thus, the Standard version of this scooter is selling lower than the listed price, while the Special version is priced approximately VND 700,000 higher.

Last July, Honda Vietnam announced the application of an 8% value-added tax for several models, including the SH 125i. As a result, the listed price of this scooter model was adjusted to a range of VND 73.9-83.4 million.

However, at the moment, only the Special version of the SH 125i is selling for less than the suggested retail price. The Standard, Premium, and Sports versions of the Honda SH 125i are currently priced at VND 75.79 million, VND 83.39 million, and VND 85.29 million, respectively, at dealerships, equivalent to a difference of VND 1.6-1.8 million depending on the version.

On the other hand, the SH 125i Special version is offered at VND 82.49 million, which is about VND 460,000 lower than the suggested retail price. However, for this version, customers can only choose Black as the other color options are currently unavailable.

Regarding the Honda SH Mode, the actual selling prices at dealerships range from VND 59.89 million to VND 67.69 million, depending on the version. These prices represent a difference of approximately VND 1.35-3.88 million compared to the prices suggested by Honda Vietnam. However, the quantity available is limited, and color options are quite restricted.

Honda LEAD and Yamaha Scooters Experience Price Drops

According to Honda Vietnam’s report, the company’s motorcycle sales reached 227,560 units in January, a slight decrease compared to the sales figures in the last month of 2023. In February, Honda motorcycle sales in the Vietnamese market reached 120,499 units, equivalent to a 47% decrease compared to the first month of 2024.

Given the less favorable sales performance, many dealerships have implemented short-term promotional programs worth VND 500,000-700,000, lasting for about 2-3 days and applicable to specific models. In addition, some models are also offered by dealerships at prices lower than the suggested retail prices.

For instance, out of the three variants of the Honda LEAD scooter available in the Vietnamese market, two are currently selling for less than the listed prices. Specifically, the Standard version of the Honda LEAD is priced at VND 38.79 million, while the Premium version costs VND 40.39 million, equivalent to a maximum reduction of VND 1.3 million.

Meanwhile, the Special version of the Honda LEAD is priced at VND 43.29 million, which is approximately VND 490,000 higher than the suggested retail price. With this version, customers can choose between Black and Silver as their color options.

At present, Yamaha scooters are also selling at relatively good prices, up to nearly VND 2.4 million lower than the suggested retail prices.

Specifically, the Yamaha Grande Hybrid variants are priced between VND 47 million and VND 47.2 million, VND 2-2.4 million lower than the listed prices. The Yamaha Janus is also offered at VND 1-1.2 million lower than the suggested retail price, currently ranging from VND 27.5 million to VND 31.5 million depending on the version.

It is likely that motorcycle prices in Vietnam will remain unchanged in the coming time or even witness further reductions due to weak purchasing power.

When compared to neighboring countries, data from the ASEAN Automotive Federation (AAF) shows that motorcycle sales in four countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand, declined by 12.2% in the first month of the year compared to the same period last year. The total motorcycle sales in these four countries in January reached 326,425 units, while the figure for the same period in 2023 was 371,907 units.
