According to Motor1, the Mercedes-AMG One was first unveiled in September 2017 as the Project One, but the production version didn’t debut until June 2022.
Customers had to wait even longer, as deliveries only began early 2023. The task of adapting the F1 engine for road use was no easy feat, with even the CEO of Mercedes admitting that the leadership was probably “drunk” when they greenlit the project.
The aforementioned challenges mainly revolved around the 1.6L turbocharged V6 engine borrowed from Lewis Hamilton’s F1 car. However, a recent large-scale recall by the German Federal Transport Authority (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA) addressed a different issue, affecting 219 Mercedes-AMG Ones.
Specifically, the KBA urged Mercedes-AMG to address a potential fire hazard caused by the active rear wing’s hydraulic lines, which may be missing a locking pin. In the worst-case scenario, hydraulic fluid could leak and ignite upon contact with nearby high-temperature components.

Per Motor1, the affected Mercedes-AMG Ones need to be inspected to determine if the locking pin is properly installed. The KBA states that the fix will take an average of 90 minutes per car.
With only 275 units of the Mercedes-AMG One produced globally, this recall affects nearly 80% of the total production run. Most of the recalled cars are in Germany, where 183 owners need to contact Mercedes-AMG to schedule repairs. The recall report indicates that the affected AMG Ones were manufactured between December 12, 2022, and May 9, 2025.
It’s worth noting that the production of the Mercedes-AMG One began in August 2022 at a dedicated AMG facility in Coventry, England.
To date, two AMG Ones have been involved in fires, but the KBA doesn’t believe these incidents are related to the issue mentioned in the recall. The first Mercedes-AMG One was destroyed in a car carrier fire in the UK in May 2023, while the second hypercar caught fire on the roadside in Germany a few weeks ago.

The Mercedes-AMG One is a hypercar powered by a V6 engine producing a maximum of 574 horsepower. Combined with four electric motors, the system delivers a total output of 1,063 horsepower, paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission integrated with an electric motor.
The hypercar offers six driving modes: Race Safe, Race, EV, Race Plus, Strat 2, and Individual. The RACE START feature enables the AMG One to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds.
Priced at $2.7 million USD, the Mercedes-AMG One is limited to just 275 units worldwide. The actual demand for this hypercar is four times the number, but the German marque has refused to increase production.
