Following the distribution of Wuling’s small electric car lines, TMT Motors is gearing up to enter the electric motorcycle market in Vietnam with five new products and a strong commitment to investing in public charging and battery swap stations.

In late July 2025, TMT Motors announced its expansion plans into the world of two-wheeled electric vehicles. The company is set to launch its first five electric motorcycle models in the market during the fourth quarter of this year. However, it remains unclear whether these models are self-developed and manufactured by TMT or if they are distributed from other brands.

This marks TMT’s first foray into the electric motorcycle sector. Previously, the company primarily focused on automobiles, notably assembling and distributing the Wuling Mini EV and Bingo electric car lines. Moving forward, TMT also intends to introduce the Wuling Nano S05 EV, a model even smaller than the Mini EV, with an expected price slightly higher than that of premium scooters.

Not only is TMT expanding its product portfolio, but it is also committed to building a nationwide network of public charging and battery swap stations. However, the company has not yet disclosed specific locations, the first cities for implementation, or the timeline for the system’s operation.

Notably, TMT’s battery swap stations will feature flexible scales, ranging from 5 to 72 battery slots per station, depending on the area’s conditions. The company also proposes placing these stations at existing gas stations for user convenience in finding and utilizing the service. This solution is expected to benefit electric vehicle users who lack home charging options, especially in densely populated urban areas.

Before TMT, several domestic enterprises have developed battery swap models, most notably Selex Motors, a domestic electric motorcycle brand that implemented this model in April 2023. As of mid-2025, Selex has established approximately 90 battery swap stations, mainly in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang.

Meanwhile, VinFast, the largest electric vehicle brand in Vietnam, currently boasts the country’s most extensive network of public charging stations, primarily catering to automobiles. These stations are typically located in commercial centers invested in by Vingroup. For electric motorcycles, the public charging infrastructure is still limited, presenting a vast opportunity for new market entrants like TMT.

Earlier in April, TMT announced plans to invest in 30,000 charging stations nationwide over five years. The first phase will focus on major cities and key transportation routes. The second phase will expand to provinces, rural areas, and remote regions. Mr. Bui Van Huu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TMT Motors, stated that the goal for 2025 is to complete approximately 200 charging stations. The remaining stations will be implemented by the end of 2029.

With TMT Motors’ entry into the electric motorcycle sector and its investment in charging infrastructure, the company demonstrates a serious ambition in its business expansion strategy. However, to effectively compete in a market already populated with established names and products, TMT will need to provide clearer insights into its product portfolio, pricing strategy, after-sales service policies, and the progress of its charging and battery swap station development.

The Vietnamese government is actively promoting policies to encourage the development and use of green vehicles. The market is currently dominated by domestic brands such as VinFast, Pega, DK Bike, Dat Bike, and Selex Motor, all of which have invested in local manufacturing and product development.

Within this group, VinFast leads the way with nearly 71,000 electric motorcycle sales in 2024, accounting for approximately 3% of the total gasoline-powered motorcycle sales by the five VAMM members (2.65 million units) during the same period.

In addition to domestic enterprises, Vietnamese consumers also have options from international brands such as Yadea (China), Honda, and Yamaha (Japan). However, Honda and Yamaha currently offer only one electric motorcycle model each, indicating a cautious approach to electrification in the Vietnamese market.
