Toyota’s large SUV, the Land Cruiser, is experiencing a global surge in popularity, with strong sales in multiple countries. Interestingly, the top market for the Land Cruiser in 2024 was not in the Middle East, a region where it has a significant presence.

The Land Cruiser Series 300 is the largest model in Toyota’s expansive Land Cruiser range. While it is a popular choice in Middle Eastern markets, Australia took the top spot for sales in 2024.

According to data compiled by Carindustryanalysis, Toyota sold 105,700 units of the Land Cruiser Series 300 last year, a slight 2% decrease from 2023. Australia led the way with 13,790 vehicles sold, surpassing Japan’s sales of 13,174 units, which placed second.

Australia emerges as the top market for the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, outpacing even Japan.

Despite Australia’s lead, Middle Eastern markets still accounted for a significant portion of the global sales for this large SUV. In 2024, 59% of the total J300 units sold were delivered to countries within this region.

Saudi Arabia ranked third globally, purchasing 12,381 Toyota Land Cruiser Series 300 vehicles in 2024. Following closely were the United Arab Emirates (9,319 units), Oman (8,882 units), Qatar (8,685 units), Kuwait (8,028 units), Iraq (7,133 units), and Jordan (2,849 units).

Apart from Australia, Japan, and the Middle Eastern countries, the only other market to make it into the top 10 was Russia. Despite Toyota halting sales in Russia due to the Ukraine conflict, the Land Cruiser LC300 still managed to sell 3,682 units there, making Russia the ninth-largest market.

Top 10 Markets for Toyota Land Cruiser Series 300 in 2024

In Vietnam, the large SUV achieved cumulative sales of 668 units in 2024, with 222 units sold in the first half of this year. While this may seem low, it’s impressive considering the high price of the Land Cruiser 300 Series in Vietnam (VND 4.58 billion) and the frequent price hikes at dealerships due to limited supply.

Felipe Munoz from Carindustryanalysis suggests that global sales could be even higher if Toyota offered the Land Cruiser Series 300 in the US and Canada. Currently, Toyota only distributes the new Land Cruiser Prado (250 Series) in these North American markets.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series, introduced in 2021, is based on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. It has received upgrades, including a digital instrument cluster and the addition of a new self-charging hybrid powertrain option, along with minor design changes.

The upgraded interior of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series showcases a modern and refined aesthetic.

The hybrid version is the most powerful Land Cruiser ever, with a combined output of 457 horsepower. It pairs a turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor.

These upgrades are expected to boost sales of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series this year. However, with the recent launch of the new-generation Nissan Patrol after a 15-year wait, Toyota may face increased competition in the large SUV segment.
