A class action lawsuit has been filed against Toyota in Australia, represented by the law firm William Roberts. The lawsuit targets Corolla models manufactured between July 12, 2010, and September 30, 2014, with the white paint code 040. This paint color was sold under various names such as Glacier Pure Super White, Glacier White, Super White, and Super White II.
According to the lawsuit, the paint is prone to peeling when exposed to prolonged sunlight. In many cases, car owners had to repaint their vehicles entirely. Customers have reported that this issue affects the aesthetics and value of their cars and causes significant inconvenience during ownership.
Legally, the lawsuit accuses Toyota of breaching Australian Consumer Law by failing to ensure the quality of their products. In addition to seeking compensation for financial losses, the plaintiffs are also demanding reparations for reasonable mental distress.

While the lawsuit was only recently filed, Toyota acknowledged the issue back in mid-2022. The company stated that sunlight and UV rays could reduce the adhesion between the primer and the metal body, leading to peeling. Additionally, the William Roberts group accuses Toyota of failing to disclose information about this issue during the production of the affected vehicles.
It is unclear how many car owners are officially part of the lawsuit, but a Facebook group related to paint peeling issues in various Toyota models in the country has garnered over 7,000 members. The lawsuit is funded on a “no win, no fee” basis, meaning participants do not need to pay anything upfront. Toyota Australia has denied the claims made in the lawsuit and stated that they will “vigorously defend” their position against the allegations.
