Ford Motor Company has once again made history, but this time with an unexpected vehicle—the Transit minivan at the Nurburgring Nordschleife racetrack. Driven by Romain Dumas, this all-electric Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2 set an impressive timed lap record at the infamous “Green Hell.”
This Ford Transit could make Lamborghini and Ferrari supercars look like static displays
Not long ago, the minimally-modified Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X C8 claimed the title of the fastest American production car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, with a time of 6 minutes 49.275 seconds. This beat the regular ZR1 (6:50.763) and, more impressively, the 6:52.072 lap time set by the Ford Mustang GTD, driven by Dirk Muller.
Now, Ford has made history again at the Green Hell with a Transit like no other. This all-electric Ford Transit SuperVan 4.2, with a staggering 2,000 horsepower, has already set records at places like Bathurst and Pikes Peak.
As part of Ford’s electric vehicle showcase within their high-performance racing portfolio, they entered the SuperVan in a timed lap at the Nurburgring and astonished everyone with an incredible time of 6:48.393.
This means it beat not just the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Chevrolet ZR1X but also posted the ninth-fastest lap time ever around the Nordschleife by any production car on Earth. Of course, it’s important to remember that this is a specially-designed race car with slick tires and an outrageous power output, but it’s still an astonishing feat for a Transit van.
And there’s more to come, as Ford Performance teased; especially with the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, which was also present at the track on the same day, although its lap time is yet to be revealed.
