A 2002 Honda Insight, owned by Daisy Rue, is approaching an impressive milestone: 1 million miles traveled.
So far, the Honda Insight has covered approximately 983,000 miles, surpassing the 1-million-kilometer mark and with just under 15,000 miles left to reach the 1-million-mile goal.
Typically, a 20-year-old car would be retired or considered a collector’s item. But this Honda Insight is an exception, still going strong. It’s a two-seater hybrid, equipped with the original 1.0L 3-cylinder gasoline engine from the factory. Over the past two decades, it has had two owners but has always been well-maintained and consistently on the road.
To achieve this remarkable mileage, the car has gone through three CVT transmissions, three hybrid battery packs, two flywheels, and an engine head gasket. Currently, the engine consumes more oil than usual and tends to blow smoke, but Daisy remains confident in its ability to reach the target. She even attached a small sign at the back of the car to reassure fellow drivers about the smoke.
The story gained traction when Daisy shared photos and odometer readings on the Facebook group ‘Mileage Impossible’, garnering tens of thousands of likes. Many view this as a testament to the durability of the Honda Insight – one of the first hybrid models on the market, introduced in 1999.
If the 1-million-mile mark is achieved, Daisy’s Insight will be a personal triumph and a memorable feat for the hybrid car community. Some are even curious if Honda will acknowledge and celebrate this achievement by offering Daisy a new car.
