The Rise of Electric Vehicles in Vietnam: How Tire Brands are Adapting to the Electric Revolution

The automotive industry in Vietnam is undergoing an electric revolution, with a growing trend towards new energy vehicles, especially electric cars. This shift in the market has prompted automotive component manufacturers, particularly tire brands, to innovate and adapt their products to stay relevant.

Dedicated Electric Vehicle Tires:

Some tire brands have taken the initiative to develop tires specifically designed for electric vehicles. Sailun Tire, for instance, has launched a range of tires exclusively for electric cars in Vietnam. Their Sailun Atrezzo Elite tires are original equipment on VinFast electric vehicles, while the Erange line is suited for premium electric cars, utilizing Ecopoint3 technology for improved cooling, reduced wear, and enhanced road grip.

Pirelli has also introduced the P Zero All Season Plus Elect tires, a high-performance line suited for electric and hybrid vehicles. These tires, an evolution of the P Zero line used on the Ferrari F40, offer superior handling and all-terrain grip while accommodating the increased weight of electric vehicle battery packs.

Yokohama, a Japanese tire brand, has unveiled the ADVAN Sport EV tires, specifically tailored for electric vehicles with 18 or 19-inch wheels. By employing Silentfoam technology, these tires reduce rolling resistance, resulting in extended range for electric cars.

Hybrid Tires Compatible with Electric Cars:

In addition to dedicated electric vehicle tires, tire manufacturers are also modifying their existing products or introducing new lines that are compatible with both traditional and electric vehicles.

Michelin’s Primacy 5 tires, an upgrade to the previous generation, feature redesigned tread patterns and advanced vibration reduction technology. These tires offer a 13% reduction in rolling resistance during acceleration, braking, and cornering, and a 24% increase in durability. They are commonly found on electric vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.

Continental’s ProContact RX tires, originally designed for the Tesla Model 3 Performance, feature acoustic foam lining to reduce road noise, making them ideal for electric vehicles with 16 to 22-inch wheels.

Bridgestone has recently launched the Turanza 6, an upgraded version of the Turanza T005, suitable for sedans, MPVs, and electric vehicles. These tires incorporate Enliten technology, which strengthens the tire’s structure, reducing wear caused by electric vehicle acceleration. The optimized tread pattern minimizes road noise and delivers a 14% reduction in rolling resistance, contributing to increased energy efficiency and extended range for electric cars.
