Ferrari stole the show at this year’s Monterey Car Week as the one-off Daytona SP3 599+1 fetched a record-breaking $26 million at auction.

This figure far exceeded the initial estimate of just over $3.5 million and made the car one of the most expensive modern Ferraris ever sold at auction.

The Daytona SP3, originally launched in 2021, was limited to 599 units, all of which were pre-ordered even before the production line started. Each car was priced at approximately $2.25 million. Just when the story seemed to end, Ferrari surprised everyone this summer by announcing that they would be crafting one additional car for the Ferrari Foundation. This special model, bearing the serial number “599+1”, features unique license plates and serial numbers, emphasizing its exclusivity.

The opportunity to own this bespoke Ferrari stirred the global collecting community. At the RM Sotheby’s auction, intense competition quickly drove the price beyond $20 million in just a few minutes, eventually settling at $26 million. This amount could purchase anywhere from 100 to 150 other supercars, and it propelled the Daytona SP3 599+1 to 13th place in the ranking of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction. Notably, it is also the first modern Ferrari to break into this chart, which is typically dominated by classic cars.

The Ferrari Daytona SP3 599+1 boasts a bold two-tone exterior, combining exposed carbon fiber with Giallo Modena yellow paint. The Ferrari logo in yellow along the side of the car adds a striking accent. Inside the cockpit, the trim is crafted from unique materials such as fabric recycled from tires, and the prancing horse emblem is featured prominently throughout, enhancing the sense of luxury and exclusivity.

The allure of the Daytona SP3 599+1 also stems from its historical significance. This could be one of the last Ferrari models to feature a naturally aspirated V12 engine before the brand transitions to the hybrid era with the new F80 supercar. The V12 engine produces a staggering 829 horsepower and 697 Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0–100 km/h in just 2.85 seconds and on to a top speed of 340 km/h.

This special edition is not just a testament to Ferrari’s illustrious V12 heritage but also sets a new benchmark in the world of modern supercar collecting. The Daytona SP3 599+1 has transcended from being just a car to becoming an iconic legend.
