Recently, a street-legal Porsche 911 GT2 RS supercar was spotted cruising the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, bearing the license plate 48A-238.63. This rare sighting quickly captured the attention of car enthusiasts and the online community alike.

Speculation arose that a businessman from the Central Highlands had acquired the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and registered it with an old Dak Nong province license plate. However, with the current regulations allowing individuals to purchase their preferred license plates through auctions, anyone, regardless of their residence in Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tri, or elsewhere, can bid for a license plate from any province.

In reality, this Porsche 911 GT2 RS has had the same owner since its arrival in Vietnam. The only change is that the businessman switched the license plate from Ho Chi Minh City’s 51 series to Dak Nong’s 48 series. The reason behind this intriguing switch lies in the significance of the number 23863 to the owner, one of Vietnam’s few USD billionaires.

Specifically, this number represents his birthdate, August 23, 1963. Previously, the limited-edition Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years in his collection also featured the same license plate number, 23863. The plate 48A-238.63 was auctioned on April 28, 2025, and since only one person registered, it was sold at the reserve price of VND 40.1 million.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS has been customized with a new livery featuring three colors: the original white, complemented by red and black decals. Notably, the roof and rear bumper are finished in glossy black, a departure from the original white. The car’s sides are adorned with striking black and red stripes.

Currently, this Porsche 911 GT2 RS is part of a Saigon-based businessman’s collection, which boasts over 30 vehicles. When first imported, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS had an official price tag exceeding VND 20 billion, excluding optional features and on-road costs. Thus, the total value of this supercar is estimated at up to VND 24 billion.

The owner, who also possesses the only grey Porsche 918 Spyder in Vietnam, has equipped this GT2 RS with matte bronze dual five-spoke wheels and eye-catching yellow brake calipers. The interior is dominated by a bold red and black color scheme.

The 911 GT2 RS, once the most powerful street-legal Porsche and a thrilling driving experience, has since been overshadowed by the latest generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 992.

Nevertheless, the GT2 RS remains the most powerful 911 in Porsche’s history, equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine that delivers a staggering 700 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque.

This power is paired with a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission, rather than a manual option like the Porsche 911 GT3 992 favored by Vietnamese tycoons. Combined with rear-wheel drive, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 340 km/h.
