August 2025 saw a general decline in car sales across Vietnam’s automotive market, influenced by the Lunar Seventh Month. However, within the mid-size SUV segment, two models defied the trend: the Hyundai Tucson and Mitsubishi Outlander.

Mid-size SUV Sales in August 2025 (units: vehicles)
Mazda CX-5: 1,025 Units
Contrary to the previous month, the Mazda CX-5 experienced a significant sales decline in August 2025. The model sold 1,025 units, a 35.3% decrease. Nonetheless, it retains its position as the sales leader in the mid-size SUV segment.
Mazda CX-5
In September 2025, Mazda continues to offer a 50% reduction in registration fees for the CX-5, mirroring the previous month’s promotion. This discount lowers the starting price by 40 million VND to 709 million VND, a move expected to sustain the CX-5’s appeal in September.
The Mazda CX-5 is often the first choice for Vietnamese consumers in the mid-size SUV category. This preference is understandable, given its appealing design, comprehensive features, safety equipment, and competitive pricing.
The CX-5 is powered by two gasoline engine options: a 2.0L and a 2.5L. These engines deliver 154 hp/200 Nm and 188 hp/252 Nm, respectively. They are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (AWD).
VinFast VF 7: 718 Units
In August 2025, the VinFast VF 7 overtook the Ford Territory to claim second place in the mid-size SUV segment, selling 718 units, a 9.6% decrease from July.
VinFast VF 7
The VinFast VF 7 boasts an impressive design and feature set, with a price range of 799 to 999 million VND, including the battery. Its low operating costs and reduced maintenance needs compared to traditional fuel vehicles further enhance its appeal.
This Vietnamese-made electric SUV is available in three variants: Eco, Plus (single motor), and Plus (dual motor). The Eco variant features a single electric motor producing 174 hp and 250 Nm, paired with a 59.6 kWh battery offering a WLTP range of up to 375 km per charge.
The Plus variants feature dual electric motors with a combined output of 349 hp and 500 Nm. These models are equipped with a 75.3 kWh battery, providing a maximum range of approximately 431 km per charge.
Hyundai Tucson: 618 Units
The Hyundai Tucson was one of the few mid-size SUVs to achieve sales growth in August 2025, with 618 units sold, a 21.6% increase. It secured third place in the segment, surpassing the Ford Territory, and became Hyundai’s best-selling model in Vietnam for the month.
Hyundai Tucson
The Tucson’s success formula includes its striking design, spacious and well-equipped interior, and attractive pricing, ranging from 769 to 989 million VND. The recent launch of its upgraded version in Vietnam has further boosted its sales.
The Hyundai Tucson offers three engine options: a 2.0L MPI gasoline engine, a 2.0L diesel engine, and a 1.6L turbocharged gasoline engine. These engines produce 156 hp/192 Nm, 186 hp/416 Nm, and 180 hp/265 Nm, respectively. They are paired with 6-speed automatic, 8-speed automatic, or 7-speed dual-clutch transmissions.
Honda CR-V: 483 Units
The Honda CR-V ranked fourth in mid-size SUV sales, with 483 units sold in August 2025, a slight 2.4% decrease from the previous month. Over half of its sales (267 units) were attributed to the hybrid variant.
Honda CR-V
While the Honda CR-V’s price range of 1.029 to 1.259 billion VND may not be its strongest suit, ongoing registration fee discounts have helped maintain its appeal by saving customers tens of millions of VND.
The CR-V’s consistent customer base can be attributed to its design, comprehensive features, and safety equipment. Its driving dynamics and hybrid powertrain option further distinguish it in the mid-size SUV segment.
The Honda CR-V e:HEV RS hybrid variant combines a 2.0L gasoline engine (146 hp) with two electric motors (totaling 181 hp), resulting in a combined output of 204 hp and 335 Nm of torque.
The remaining three variants feature a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine producing 188 hp and 240 Nm, paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Ford Territory: 481 Units
August 2025 marked a significant decline for the Ford Territory, with sales plummeting 48% to 481 units, the steepest drop in the mid-size SUV segment. This performance relegated it to fifth place.
Ford Territory
Despite the launch of its new version in Vietnam during August 2025, the Ford Territory failed to achieve sales growth. The updated model features a more modern design and enhanced features, including a dual 12.3-inch infotainment system, Arkamys 3D Audio, fast-charging ports for all rows, and a rearview mirror with live streaming capabilities.
The 2025 Ford Territory retains its 1.5L EcoBoost engine, delivering 160 hp and 248 Nm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and front-wheel drive.
Kia Sportage: 127 Units
The Kia Sportage also suffered from the impact of the Lunar Seventh Month, with sales declining 34.8% to 127 units.
Kia Sportage
Unlike its sibling, the Hyundai Tucson, the Kia Sportage has struggled to gain popularity in Vietnam due to its higher pricing and less mainstream design. Its initial high pricing three years ago likely contributed to its current sales challenges.
The Kia Sportage is now available in six variants, priced between 819 million and 1.009 billion VND. In September, discounts ranging from 11 to 30 million VND are offered, though these are modest compared to competitors like the Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V.
The Kia Sportage shares its engine options with the Hyundai Tucson.
Mitsubishi Outlander: 45 Units
Joining the Hyundai Tucson as the only other mid-size SUV with sales growth in August 2025, the Mitsubishi Outlander sold 45 units, a 21.6% increase. However, its sales volume remains too low to escape last place in the segment.
Mitsubishi Outlander
The Mitsubishi Outlander has long lacked official promotions, and its unattractive pricing (825 to 950 million VND) and outdated design and features have impacted its sales.
In Vietnam, the Outlander is offered with a single engine option: a 2.0L MIVEC gasoline engine producing 145 hp and 196 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission.
