Mirroring the broader trend in Vietnam’s automotive market, the A-segment car sales have experienced a downturn across all models. This segment has been on a decline in Vietnam over the past few years. The traditional Vietnamese superstition of avoiding car purchases in the seventh lunar month has further dampened sales in this category.

A-Segment Car Sales in August 2025 (Unit: Cars)

Hyundai Grand i10: 174 Units

The Hyundai Grand i10 recorded the highest sales decline in the A-segment during August 2025. Its sales plummeted to 174 units, marking a 33.8% drop compared to the previous month. Despite this, the Hyundai Grand i10 remains the segment leader in terms of sales.

Hyundai Grand i10

The Hyundai Grand i10 boasts the most variants in Vietnam’s A-segment, with a total of six versions priced between 360 and 455 million VND. It is also the only model in the segment available in both hatchback and sedan body styles.

The latest version of the Hyundai Grand i10 comes with enhanced features, including LED daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, and side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Additionally, it features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, a Vietnam-specific navigation system, a push-button start, and a smart key.

Powering this South Korean model is a 1.2L Kappa MPI gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 83 horsepower and 114 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Wigo: 170 Units

In August 2025, the Toyota Wigo closely trailed the Hyundai Grand i10. The Japanese model sold 170 units, a 22.3% decrease, securing the second position in the A-segment.

Toyota Wigo

Compared to its rivals, the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Morning, the Toyota Wigo offers fewer variants and a higher starting price. Currently, it is available in a single G variant priced at 405 million VND.

However, the Toyota Wigo boasts a design and features that rival its competitors. Notable features include LED headlights, power-folding side mirrors, 14-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 4-speaker audio system. It also stands out in the segment with advanced safety features such as Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The Toyota Wigo is powered by a 1.2L gasoline engine, coupled with a dual D-CVT automatic transmission. This engine produces a maximum output of 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of peak torque. The manual transmission option is no longer available.

Kia Morning: 5 Units

The Kia Morning’s sales in August 2025 remained modest, with only 5 units sold, a 28.5% decline. It ranked last in the A-segment and was among the top 10 slowest-selling cars in the market for August 2025.

The previous generation of the Kia Morning in Vietnam offered two variants, MT and X-Line, priced between 349 and 424 million VND. The new generation, launched in September 2025, features two variants, AT and GT-Line, priced between 439 and 469 million VND.

The new version of this A-segment car features a more modern design and upgraded features but at a higher price point. It remains to be seen whether the new model will boost sales in the coming months.

Newest Kia Morning

The latest Kia Morning boasts standout features such as LED headlights and taillights with a distinctive “star map” design, 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, a 6-speaker audio system, and the segment’s only automatic climate control. Unfortunately, it still lacks Cruise Control, a feature available in some competitors.

Under the hood, the new Kia Morning retains the familiar 1.25L gasoline engine, delivering a maximum output of 83 horsepower and 120 Nm of peak torque. Unlike the previous generation, the 2025 model is only available with an automatic transmission, with no manual option.
