Less than a week after teasing the first glimpse of the Seal 6 EV, BYD has confirmed that this electric sedan will debut in Malaysia on September 26th. As previously speculated, Malaysia will be the first global market to launch this model, known as the BYD Qin L EV in China.

The BYD Seal 6 EV marks its first international launch outside China.

Compared to its sibling, the BYD Seal, the Seal 6 EV is slightly smaller and is expected to be more affordable. Built on the same e-Platform 3.0 Evo chassis as the BYD Sealion 7, this sedan measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

The BYD Seal 6 EV sits between the C and D sedan segments in terms of size.

In terms of design, the BYD Seal 6 EV is less sporty than the Seal, which is understandable given the difference in performance between the two models.

The front fascia of the BYD Seal 6 EV features sleek headlights connected by a silver strip, a signature element of BYD’s Dynasty series. This design is also seen on the BYD Atto 2 and Atto 3.

The front bumper is shaped like an “X,” a motif repeated at the rear. The side profile retains the six-window design and black trim on the door sills. The rear is equipped with LED taillights featuring an “infinity” graphic, similar to the Atto 2, and a BYD logo with integrated red LED lighting.

The interior of the BYD Seal 6 EV is more streamlined and modern than that of the Seal. It features a glossy black panel spanning the width of the dashboard. The simple three-spoke steering wheel from the BYD Atto 2 is also used in this electric sedan.

The gear selector is mounted on the steering column, like in the BYD Atto 2, freeing up space in the center console. This allows for additional storage, including a tray for two phones, one of which supports 50W Qi wireless charging. There are also two cup holders and an optional cooled storage compartment under the center armrest.

Standard features include an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment screen. The audio system offers 6 or 8 speakers, and the front seats are power-adjustable with heating and ventilation. The driver’s seat has memory settings, and there’s a panoramic sunroof with an electric blind. An adaptive DiSus-C suspension system is optionally available.

In China, the BYD Seal 6 EV is offered in three variants. The base model delivers 150 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque, with a CLTC-rated range of 470 km from a 46.08 kWh Blade LFP battery.

The other two variants feature a more powerful electric motor with 218 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. These models come with a larger 56.64 kWh battery, offering a CLTC-rated range of 545 km.

The BYD Seal 6 EV features a front trunk due to the rear-mounted electric motor.

The smaller battery supports DC fast charging up to 84 kW, while the larger battery can charge at up to 103 kW. Both can charge from 30% to 80% in 24 minutes. AC charging is limited to 7 kW. Both batteries also support V2L external device charging with up to 6 kW of power.

It remains unclear whether the BYD Seal 6 EV will be introduced in other Southeast Asian markets, such as Vietnam, after its Malaysian launch. In Vietnam, BYD is set to launch another electric sedan, the Seal 5, in October 2025.
