BYD Seal 5 officially sets its Vietnam launch date, gearing up to compete with the Honda Civic.
Known as the Destroyer 05 in the Chinese domestic market, the BYD Seal 5 was registered for industrial design protection in Vietnam back in May 2022. It will be Vietnam’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) compact sedan.
Specifically, it features the DM-i powertrain, combining a 1.5L gasoline engine with an electric motor, delivering a total output of 217 horsepower and a maximum torque of 300 Nm. Additionally, the Blade battery pack has a capacity of 18.3 kWh, allowing the car to travel up to 120 km without using the gasoline engine, as per the NEDC standard.
This powertrain enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h. The average fuel consumption is announced at 3.8 liters per 100 km.

Like its sibling, the Seal, currently sold in Vietnam, the Seal 5 is part of BYD’s Ocean product line. Therefore, it adopts the same design language as the line. This is evident in its large frameless matrix grille with horizontal chrome slats, sleek LED headlights that sweep back, and vertical air intakes at the corners of the front bumper.

At the rear, the slim LED taillights are connected across the width, with both the rear bumper and taillights accented by chrome trim for a premium feel. The exhaust is neatly integrated, and the turn signals feature a sequential lighting effect.
