Long charging times have long been considered one of the biggest drawbacks of electric vehicles, especially when compared to the quick refueling process of internal combustion engine cars. However, Chinese automaker Zeekr, a subsidiary of Geely, has unveiled an upgraded version of its 001 model with charging speeds rivaling that of a gas station. In fact, this could be one of the fastest-charging electric vehicles in the world today.

This impressive capability is achieved through a new 900-volt electrical architecture and the “Golden Brick” battery technology. According to Zeekr, depending on the version, the 001 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 7 minutes. This is even more remarkable considering the vehicle is equipped with a substantial 95 kWh battery pack.

The electric vehicle from the brand set to enter the Vietnamese market can charge as quickly as refueling.

Zeekr states that the new 001 model supports a maximum charging power of 1,140 kW. In the U.S. market, only Tesla’s Megacharger system for the Semi truck matches this charging capacity. Meanwhile, in China, Zeekr has begun deploying 1,300 kW charging stations.

The 95 kWh battery version of the Zeekr 001 features a full-time all-wheel-drive system (AWD) with two electric motors delivering a combined output of 912 horsepower. This power enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.83 seconds, rivaling high-performance sports cars, and reach a top speed of 280 km/h.

According to China’s CLTC standard, the 95 kWh battery version of the Zeekr 001 has a range of up to 710 km. However, real-world figures may be lower.

Additionally, Zeekr will offer another version of the 001 with a 103 kWh battery. This battery utilizes CATL’s Qilin technology, increasing the range to 762 km. While it doesn’t charge as quickly as the Golden Brick battery, it’s still impressive, taking only 10 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

The 103 kWh battery version will be equipped with a single rear-mounted electric motor, producing a maximum output of 489 horsepower. This version accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.98 seconds.

Beyond its lightning-fast charging, the new Zeekr 001 boasts comprehensive upgrades in design and technology. It features a panoramic glass roof with integrated LED starry sky lighting, similar to Rolls-Royce’s design. The roof can display various constellations via the rear control screen. This system incorporates 500 LED lights, adding 1 mm to the glass thickness.

Most notably, the interior features a 16-inch central touchscreen with 3.5K resolution that can rotate 30°, a 13-inch high-definition digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch rear control screen, a 39.3-inch AR-HUD (Augmented Reality Head-Up Display), and a 29-speaker sound system.

The cabin is extensively upholstered in premium Nappa leather, while the center armrest is covered in luxurious suede.

The front seats feature 20 massage points, and the rear seats have 12, providing a relaxing experience for both the driver and passengers. The rear seats can recline up to 125° and come with leg rests and footrests. The leg rest can extend up to 350 mm and adjust within an 87° range.

Unfortunately, the exterior design remains largely unchanged from the previous version. The dimensions (length x width x height) are 4,977 x 1,999 x 1,545 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,005 mm, identical to before.

The pricing for the Zeekr 001 in the Chinese market has not yet been announced. Zeekr has confirmed that deliveries to customers will begin in the coming days.

Since 2024, news of Zeekr entering the Vietnamese automobile market has been announced. Zeekr vehicles will be distributed in Vietnam through Tasco Auto. However, as of now, Zeekr vehicles have not yet been officially introduced in the country.
