According to insider sources, the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ SUV is set to debut at an exclusive press event on October 20, 2025.

Following this, the vehicle will make its global premiere at 5 AM on October 21, Japan Standard Time, marking the highly anticipated return of one of the most sought-after off-road vehicles in recent years.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand and exported to Japan, a rare move in Toyota’s production history. Domestic sales in Japan are expected to begin in mid-2026. The decision to base production in Thailand reinforces speculation that the Land Cruiser FJ will share the same platform as the Hilux Champ pickup truck, designed for versatility, customization, and cost-efficiency.

Long revered by off-road enthusiasts as the “mini Land Cruiser,” this model is seen as a spiritual successor to the iconic FJ Cruiser. Since Toyota teased a single cryptic image of the SUV in August 2023, the company has kept technical details under tight wraps, fueling excitement among fans who believe this could be the modern reincarnation of the legendary FJ Cruiser, reimagined for broader appeal.

Patent design leaks reveal the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ features a boxy, utilitarian design with a distinct off-road aesthetic. The 5-door SUV boasts a compact front end with signature round LED headlights, pronounced fender flares, a robust C-pillar, and a nearly vertical rear end.

Notably, the vehicle includes a large spare tire mounted on the rear door, a classic Land Cruiser hallmark. The entire lower body is clad in unpainted black plastic, extending from the front bumper to the wheel arches and side skirts. This design enhances off-road durability while paying homage to the rugged style of vintage off-roaders.

Insider reports suggest the new Land Cruiser FJ measures approximately 4,500 mm in length, positioning it in the compact SUV segment alongside competitors like the Ford Bronco Sport and Suzuki Jimny 5-door, though slightly larger to accommodate its body-on-frame construction.

Unlike its premium siblings, the Land Cruiser Prado and 300 Series, which use the advanced TNGA-F platform, the FJ is rumored to be built on the IMV-0 ladder frame chassis, similar to the latest Hilux and Fortuner models.

This body-on-frame architecture enhances load capacity and off-road performance while facilitating component sharing and production synergy with Toyota’s pickup truck lineup. This strategic approach aligns with Toyota’s goal of creating a more accessible Land Cruiser variant, targeting younger, adventure-seeking consumers.

Powertrain options for the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ are expected to include a 2.7L four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 2.8L turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, both currently used in the Prado, Hilux, and Fortuner.

The gasoline variant is likely paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel model is anticipated to feature an 8-speed automatic. Regardless of the engine choice, full-time 4WD will be standard across all trims.

Beyond Japan, the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is slated for release in several Southeast Asian markets, including Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia, all regions with a strong preference for body-on-frame vehicles.
