The introduction of Green SM in Surabaya marks a significant milestone for this major economic and commercial hub in East Java. With over 3.8 million registered vehicles in 2024, primarily motorcycles and private cars, the city faces increasing challenges from traffic congestion and air pollution, directly impacting residents’ productivity and quality of life. Green SM’s fleet of 100% electric taxis, operated by professional drivers and supported by a user-friendly app, offers a reliable, comfortable, and sustainable transportation solution. It aligns with Indonesia’s goals of building smart cities and reducing carbon emissions.
Green SM first launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, in December 2024. Since then, its jade-green VinFast electric taxis have gained popularity for their smooth rides, courteous drivers, transparent pricing, and positive environmental impact. In early September 2025, the service expanded to Makassar and Bekasi, demonstrating its adaptability to diverse urban environments, from coastal tourist cities to industrial centers. With its presence in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, Green SM transitions from city-by-city expansion to a nationwide strategy, proving that green transportation is not a future concept but a present reality.
Mr. Deny Tjia – CEO of Green SM Indonesia speaking at the event
Mr. Deny Tjia, CEO of Green SM Indonesia, stated: “Green SM’s launch in Surabaya is more than just market expansion; it reflects our strong commitment to supporting the dynamic growth of Indonesia’s leading cities. As East Java’s commercial hub and international gateway, Surabaya is the ideal location to demonstrate that electric taxis are not only practical but also set new standards for sustainable urban mobility in Indonesia.”
