Toyota has unveiled a special project to honor one of its most iconic SUVs—the Land Cruiser FJ60.

Dubbed the Turbo Trail Cruiser, this concept masterfully blends retro styling with modern performance technology, captivating vintage car enthusiasts.

Design-wise, the Turbo Trail Cruiser retains the FJ60’s signature boxy, minimalist aesthetic, featuring halogen headlights, a classic Land Cruiser grille, and a body-on-frame construction. However, enhancements include a 38 mm lifted suspension, reverse-mounted front springs, and 35-inch off-road tires on beadlock wheels, giving it a rugged, modern edge.

The interior preserves the original spirit while seamlessly integrating contemporary amenities. A discreetly embedded touchscreen, paired with a premium JBL sound system, offers modern convenience without compromising the vintage vibe.

Rather than a straightforward restoration, Toyota has reimagined this legendary SUV by replacing its entire powertrain. The 3.4L i-Force twin-turbo V6 engine from the latest Toyota Tundra now powers this classic FJ60.

This V6 powerhouse delivers 389 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque—nearly double the original FJ60’s output. Toyota aptly describes it as “old bottle, new wine,” merging timeless charm with cutting-edge performance.

Power is delivered through the original 5-speed manual transmission, preserving the classic driving experience. Engineers at Toyota Motorsports Garage developed a custom adapter to ensure seamless compatibility between the modern engine and vintage drivetrain.

Fitting the bulky V6 into the FJ60’s compact engine bay required extensive modifications. Toyota engineered custom engine mounts, oil pans, cooling systems, and high-performance exhausts to ensure proper fitment without altering the original chassis structure.

The Turbo Trail Cruiser is more than a showpiece—it’s Toyota’s statement that heritage isn’t just for nostalgia; it can thrive in the modern era.

This concept will debut at the 2025 SEMA Show in Las Vegas (USA) in early November, alongside other Toyota creations like the Camry GT-S and Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition.
