As the fourth quarter of 2025 begins, numerous hybrid car models in Vietnam are being heavily discounted by dealerships in a bid to clear inventory before the new special consumption tax policy takes effect in 2026.
Among entry-level vehicles, the Kia Sorento hybrid leads with the most significant discounts. According to dealership surveys, the 2023 Sorento HEV Premium is discounted by 260 million VND, reducing its price to 1.139 billion VND. The HEV Signature model receives a 292 million VND discount, bringing its price down to 1.247 billion VND. Lastly, the PHEV Premium variant is discounted by a substantial 398 million VND, lowering its price to 1.261 billion VND.
Similarly, the New Kia Carnival hybrid is offered with a direct discount of 20 million VND, along with a complimentary year of physical insurance, resulting in a real selling price of approximately 1.779 – 1.859 billion VND.
This month, Toyota Vietnam is offering a 50% reduction in registration fees for hybrid models such as the Corolla Cross, Yaris Cross, and Camry. After discounts, the Corolla Cross hybrid is priced at 859 million VND, the Yaris Cross hybrid at 727 million VND, and the Camry hybrid ranges from 1.38 to 1.45 billion VND.
Honda Vietnam is also providing a 100% registration fee waiver for the Civic hybrid, reducing its price to around 900 million VND. Buyers of the Honda HR-V hybrid enjoy a 50% registration fee discount (approximately 43 million VND) and a complimentary year of insurance. The Honda CR-V hybrid is discounted by about 50 million VND, bringing its price down to approximately 1.209 billion VND.
The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is also offering a 100% registration fee waiver, equivalent to a 70 million VND cash discount in October, reducing its price to 530 million VND. Additionally, customers receive a 3.5-year maintenance package at nationwide dealerships.
The Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid is also part of this trend, with discounts ranging from 50 to 100 million VND depending on the production year, bringing its price down to approximately 1.269 billion VND.
Chinese car models in Vietnam are also being heavily discounted. Buyers of the 2024 Haval Jolion hybrid will receive a 60 million VND discount, while the 2025 VIN model is discounted by 44 million VND. After discounts, the Jolion is priced between 609 and 675 million VND. The 2023 Haval H6 hybrid is discounted by a significant 356 million VND, reducing its price to 740 million VND, considerably lower than its launch price of 1.096 billion VND.
The Jaecoo J7 hybrid is discounted from 969 million VND to 889 million VND, and comes with a complimentary T-Box vehicle management app valued at 20 million VND.
For the BYD Sealion 6 hybrid, customers receive a wall-mounted charger or a remote vehicle control app, with a total gift value of approximately 40 million VND.
According to the amended Special Consumption Tax Law passed by the National Assembly on June 14, 2025, and effective from January 1, 2026, gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles (hybrids) will be subject to a special consumption tax at 70% of the tax rate applied to conventional gasoline vehicles.
A notable change is the elimination of the distinction between self-charging hybrids (HEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) as previously applied.
Currently, only PHEVs benefit from tax incentives, while HEVs are taxed similarly to gasoline vehicles, significantly increasing their selling price. With the new regulations, starting in 2026, HEVs will enjoy reduced special consumption tax, leading to lower value-added tax and registration fees, resulting in substantial price reductions.
