Ram is set to enter the SUV market for the first time in its history, marking a significant expansion for the iconic truck brand. Stellantis CEO, Antonio Filosa, confirmed that the Ram SUV will be produced alongside two SRT-branded Ram trucks, all slated for release next year.
This move signals a broader strategy by Stellantis to diversify Ram’s lineup beyond pickups and trucks, offering what Filosa describes as a “much more comprehensive product portfolio.”
Since Ram’s separation from Dodge in 2009, the brand has been synonymous with heavy-duty pickups. That’s about to change. The new Ram model, expected in 2028, will be the brand’s first entry into the SUV segment.
According to CEO Antonio Filosa, the new vehicle will debut alongside a midsize pickup that could revive the Dakota nameplate. Production of the SUV will take place at Stellantis’ Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, the same facility currently producing the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
The company plans to invest nearly $100 million in retooling the plant for the new vehicle, part of Stellantis’ larger $13 billion commitment to its U.S. operations over the next four years.
The 2025 Ram 1500 TRX is the world’s most powerful pickup truck
Reports suggest the new SUV will be built on the Ram 1500 platform, offering a similar aesthetic and robust performance. It may be named the “Ram Charger,” honoring the brand’s heritage while targeting high performance.
While final specs remain under wraps, Stellantis is expected to offer both traditional gasoline engines and an extended-range electric variant, aligning with the broader trend across its brands.

Alongside the new SUV, Ram will reintroduce high-performance SRT models to its lineup, one of which is almost certainly the revived Ram 1500 TRX. The TRX is expected to retain its off-road prowess and extreme performance, delivering over 700 horsepower from its 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine.
The second SRT model remains a mystery, though speculation points to a street-focused performance truck, potentially inspired by the recently unveiled Ram 1500 “The Dude” concept, blending a V8 engine with aggressive styling and sporty aesthetics.

The launch of the full-size SUV will position Ram to compete directly with rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. These new models will transform Ram from a single-segment brand into a multi-category competitor.
Combining proven truck DNA, performance-focused SRT variants, and hybrid technology, Ram’s first SUV could redefine the brand’s future. This initiative reflects Stellantis’ strategic focus on flexibility and electrification, promising a fresh era for Ram’s product lineup.
