Mid-Size SUV Sales in September 2025 (units: vehicles)

Mazda CX-5: 1,311 Units

In September 2025, Mazda sold 1,311 CX-5 units in Vietnam, marking a 27.9% growth. This performance solidifies the Mazda CX-5 as the undisputed leader in the mid-size SUV segment, also placing it among the top 10 best-selling vehicles in the market.

Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5’s success in Vietnam is no surprise. It boasts one of the most attractive price points in its segment, ranging from 749 to 979 million VND. Frequent discounts further reduce the price to as low as 709 million VND. Its appealing design, comprehensive features, diverse variants, and reputable brand contribute to its popularity.

Under the hood, the CX-5 offers two petrol engine options: a 2.0L and a 2.5L. These engines deliver 154 hp/200 Nm and 188 hp/252 Nm, respectively. They are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive, or a full-time AWD system.

Ford Territory: 1,120 Units

The Ford Territory achieved the highest growth rate in the mid-size SUV segment in September 2025, with sales reaching 1,120 units—a remarkable 132.8% increase. This performance propelled it to the second position in the segment.

Ford Territory

In August 2025, the Ford Territory received a mid-life upgrade in Vietnam. The new version maintains an affordable price range of 762 to 896 million VND.

The upgrade includes a dual 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Arkamys 3D Audio, fast-charging ports for both front and rear seats, and a rearview mirror with live video streaming capabilities.

Powering the Territory is a 1.5L EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, producing 160 hp and 248 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD).

Hyundai Tucson: 952 Units

September 2025 was a successful month for the Hyundai Tucson, with sales increasing by 54% to 952 units. This made it Hyundai’s best-selling model in September and the third most popular mid-size SUV.

Hyundai Tucson

Like the Ford Territory, the Hyundai Tucson received a mid-life upgrade in Vietnam, featuring design and equipment enhancements. Its price remains competitive, ranging from 769 to 989 million VND.

The Tucson offers three familiar engine options: a 2.0L MPI petrol, a 2.0L diesel, and a 1.6L turbocharged petrol. These engines produce 156 hp/192 Nm, 186 hp/416 Nm, and 180 hp/265 Nm, respectively. They are paired with a 6-speed automatic, an 8-speed automatic, or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

VinFast VF 7: 778 Units

The strong performance of the Ford Territory and Hyundai Tucson pushed the VinFast VF 7 to fourth place in the mid-size SUV segment. In September 2025, it sold 778 units, an 8.3% increase. This brings the VF 7’s year-to-date sales to 5,877 units, significantly outperforming many competitors in the segment.

VinFast VF 7

The VinFast VF 7 is popular in Vietnam due to its impressive design, features, and competitive pricing, ranging from 799 to 999 million VND (including battery). Its low running costs, minimal maintenance, and an extensive charging network with free charging until June 30, 2027, further enhance its appeal.

The VF 7 is available in three variants: Eco, Plus (single motor), and Plus (dual motor). The Eco variant features a single electric motor with 174 hp and 250 Nm, paired with a 59.6 kWh battery offering up to 375 km of range (WLTP).

The Plus variants feature dual motors with a combined 349 hp and 500 Nm, paired with a 75.3 kWh battery offering up to 431 km of range.

Honda CR-V: 485 Units

The Honda CR-V saw a modest 0.4% sales growth in September, with 485 units sold. This places it lower in the segment compared to its competitors.

Honda CR-V

Despite ongoing registration fee discounts, the CR-V’s sales remain stagnant due to its high price, ranging from 1.029 to 1.259 billion VND—the highest in its segment.

The Honda CR-V is highly regarded for its design, features, and driving experience. Notably, it is one of the few models in the segment offering a hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid system combines a 2.0L petrol engine (146 hp) with two electric motors (totaling 181 hp), delivering a combined 204 hp and 335 Nm of torque.

Alternatively, the CR-V offers a 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with 188 hp and 240 Nm, paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Kia Sportage: 141 Units

The Kia Sportage also saw positive growth in September 2025, with 141 units sold—an 11% increase from the previous month.

Kia Sportage

Despite being produced by the same conglomerate as the Hyundai Tucson, the Kia Sportage lags in sales. This is partly due to its less mainstream design and less attractive pricing, ranging from 819 million to 1.009 billion VND. The high initial pricing three years ago also affected consumer perception.

The Sportage shares the same three engine options as the Tucson, offering no unique advantages in the segment.

Mitsubishi Outlander: 0 Units

In September 2025, the Mitsubishi Outlander recorded no sales, fueling speculation that it will be replaced by the upcoming Mitsubishi Destinator. The Destinator is scheduled for launch in early December 2025.

Mitsubishi Outlander

The Outlander has long lacked official promotions, and its pricing, ranging from 825 to 950 million VND, is not particularly competitive. Its outdated design and features have also contributed to its decline in popularity.

The Outlander is powered by a 2.0L MIVEC petrol engine, delivering 145 hp and 196 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT transmission.
