At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Mazda unveiled its groundbreaking Vision-X Coupe concept car.
The Vision-X Coupe boasts larger dimensions than the current Mazda6. With a length of 5,050 mm, a width nearing 2,000 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,080 mm, it exudes a commanding and balanced presence.
The Vision-X Coupe marks a significant leap forward in Mazda’s Kodo design language—the essence of motion that has defined the brand for over a decade. On the Vision-X, this philosophy is distilled to its purest form, blending seamlessly with a futuristic design aesthetic.
The front fascia features a fully enclosed grille, accented with LED details that create visual depth. Slim headlights, handle-less doors, and the absence of traditional side mirrors further enhance its sleek profile. The fastback roofline flows seamlessly into the intricate 3D taillights, giving this four-door coupe a dynamic yet luxurious stance.
Rather than embracing full digitalization, Mazda has crafted the Vision-X Coupe’s interior with a minimalist yet emotionally engaging philosophy. The cabin avoids being dominated by screens, instead harmonizing cutting-edge technology with meticulous handcrafted elements.
The triple-ring instrument cluster draws inspiration from classic design, paired with a screen-integrated steering wheel and a baseball-bat-shaped gear lever—a nod to Japanese cultural heritage. The rear seats are designed in a VIP-style layout, featuring a dual-tone natural palette and handcrafted wood accents, creating an ambiance that is both elegant and relaxing.
A standout feature of the Vision-X Coupe is its advanced plug-in hybrid powertrain, which reintroduces the turbocharged rotary engine in a new role. Paired with a high-efficiency electric motor and battery pack, the vehicle offers an all-electric range of 99 km, with a total driving range of 800 km.
The Vision-X Coupe also introduces a CO₂ absorption capability, enabling the vehicle to purify the air as it drives. Mazda explains that this system combines exhaust capture technology with biofuel derived from microalgae, a renewable energy source that absorbs carbon during its growth.
Once refined, the oil extracted from microalgae becomes a carbon-neutral biofuel, while the residual material can be repurposed as food or organic fertilizer. Simultaneously, Mazda has developed technology to capture CO₂ directly from the exhaust, enabling its reuse in agriculture or the production of high-performance carbon materials.
