Recently, Toyota officially confirmed the upcoming launch of its brand-new SUV, the Land Cruiser FJ, in the Vietnamese market.
The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is one of the most anticipated off-road vehicles of the year among enthusiasts. Just weeks after its global debut, Toyota Vietnam announced plans to bring the FJ to the domestic market, catering to the growing demand for rugged, highly practical SUVs.
While the Japanese automaker has not yet revealed the official launch date, industry experts predict the Land Cruiser FJ will likely arrive in Vietnam by mid-2026. This strategic move aims to expand Toyota’s off-road SUV lineup, building on the success of its predecessors, the Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado.
According to the plan, the Land Cruiser FJ will be manufactured in Thailand, rather than imported from Japan like the Land Cruiser or Prado. This decision not only shortens the time-to-market but also ensures a more competitive pricing strategy.
Positioned between the Fortuner (priced at 1.055–1.395 billion VND) and the Prado (3.48 billion VND), the FJ is expected to range from 1.5 to under 2 billion VND in Vietnam. If accurate, this SUV will offer an appealing option for customers seeking the essence of a “Land Cruiser” at a more accessible price point.
Design-wise, the Land Cruiser FJ draws inspiration from the classic Land Cruiser lineage, evident in its boxy silhouette, robust front bumper, and iconic round headlights. However, Toyota has refined numerous details to align with contemporary aesthetics, blending nostalgia with modernity seamlessly.
Measuring 4,575 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, 1,960 mm in height, and with a 2,580 mm wheelbase, the FJ is notably more compact than the standard Land Cruiser. Compared to the Corolla Cross, it’s 114 mm longer but 348 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser, emphasizing agility and off-road capability in a smaller package.
Its sharp angles, bold grille, and streamlined rear end set the FJ apart from the sleek, modern SUVs, staying true to the spirit of a genuine off-road vehicle.
Inside the cabin, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ adheres to a philosophy of simplicity, durability, and user-friendliness. The interior features a traditional layout with a digital instrument cluster, a large central display, and intuitive physical controls for the climate system and drive modes.
The high-mounted gear lever is surrounded by off-road-specific controls, such as differential locks, low-range gearing, and hill descent control. The second-row seats slide for flexibility, optimizing cargo space or passenger comfort as needed.
Toyota equips the FJ with the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite, including emergency braking, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.
Under the hood, the Land Cruiser FJ is powered by a 2.7L 4-cylinder 2TR-FE engine, delivering 161 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and part-time 4WD.
The FJ’s chassis is based on the IMV platform, shared with the Hilux and Fortuner, but has been enhanced for improved torsional rigidity and body stability.
The arrival of the Land Cruiser FJ is set to invigorate Vietnam’s mid-size off-road SUV segment, joining competitors like the Fortuner, Pajero Sport, and Isuzu mu-X.
