Following its design upgrade in China earlier this year, the BYD Atto 3 has received a significant technical update, delivering enhanced performance and substantially extended range.

According to new registration documents from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the 2026 Atto 3 will feature a 74.88 kWh LFP battery, nearly 24% larger than the previous 60.48 kWh pack. This upgrade boosts the vehicle’s range from 510 km to 650 km under the CLTC cycle, equivalent to approximately 530 km in real-world WLTP conditions.

Accompanying this enhancement is an 800-volt electrical architecture, similar to that of the BYD Seal sedan, which significantly increases fast-charging speeds from 88 kW to 150 kW DC, drastically reducing charging times. A minor change includes relocating the charging port to the rear of the vehicle, rather than its previous front position.

Powering the 2026 Atto 3 is a 313-horsepower electric motor with 360 Nm of torque, paired with front-wheel drive. This motor, also found in the BYD Seal Premium, promises more robust acceleration for this mid-size electric SUV.

The exterior design remains largely unchanged from its predecessor, except for sportier front/rear bumpers, new alloy wheels, and subtle adjustments to the chrome D-pillar trim. Inside, the minimalist interior retains its flat dashboard and door panels, featuring a larger 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a streamlined center console.

With these significant advancements in battery and drivetrain technology, the BYD Atto 3 2026 is poised to strengthen its competitive edge against emerging rivals such as Geely (Proton), MG, Leapmotor, and GWM, as China’s electric vehicle market intensifies its focus on pricing and technological innovation.
