The mini electric car segment is set to welcome a new contender: the NIUMM, a vehicle specifically designed for navigating bustling urban traffic.
This innovative product made its debut at the EICMA 2025 Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, and is confirmed to enter production soon. With an expected price tag of around €8,000 (approximately VND 243 million), it positions itself above the Wuling Mini EV in the Vietnamese market.
In terms of design, the NIUMM features a short front end paired with a large windshield, optimizing visibility for the driver. It comes equipped with a single wiper blade, sufficient for light to moderate rainy conditions.
This mini electric vehicle boasts 12-inch rims with 125/65 tires. It includes a 26-liter storage compartment under the hood, a respectable capacity for a compact urban vehicle. The lighting system features LED headlights and a modern positioning strip, aligning with European mini electric car trends.
The NIUMM’s cabin is designed with minimalism in mind, focusing on functionality. It features a 5-inch color display showing essential driving information such as speed, battery level, and driving modes. While there’s no central infotainment screen, it supports USB ports and a phone holder for personal device use.
The vehicle integrates with NIU’s mobile app, offering real-time GPS tracking, vehicle status monitoring, anti-theft alerts, and remote control capabilities. Optional amenities like a sunroof and air conditioning further enhance the driving experience.
As part of the L6e light four-wheeled vehicle category, the NIUMM has a top speed limited to 45 km/h, comparable to a 50cc motorcycle. Notably, it is equipped with two NQi battery packs, the same type used in NIU’s electric scooters. Initial specifications indicate a range of approximately 70 km, maintaining a steady 45 km/h even under full throttle.
NIU also offers an optional additional battery pack, doubling the range for users with extensive travel needs. The vehicle is designed with a dedicated slot for the extra battery, maintaining the convenience of removable batteries for home charging.
In recent years, L6e light vehicles have gained popularity in European cities due to their compact size, speed limits, and weight under 425 kg (excluding batteries), making them ideal for urban mobility. Many countries allow these vehicles to be driven with a motorcycle license, broadening their appeal to young adults, urban residents, and seniors seeking a more convenient alternative to traditional cars.
NIU is optimistic that the NIUMM will capitalize on this growing trend upon its commercial launch. While the exact release date and final pricing remain undisclosed, indications suggest that this mini electric vehicle’s debut is imminent.
