Ferrari has launched the 849 Testarossa in Southeast Asia, unveiling the model at a prestigious event in Thailand.
According to insider reports, immediately following the launch, Vietnamese buyers have already placed orders for the authentic 849 Testarossa, despite the extremely limited allocation for the domestic market.
Initially, Ferrari is offering only four units to Vietnamese customers, priced at an estimated 35 billion VND each. Early buyers can expect delivery by late 2026, while those ordering in 2026 will receive their vehicles in 2027.
The 849 Testarossa is the successor to the SF90 Stradale, a model that played a pivotal role in Ferrari’s hybrid strategy since 2019. Unlike the SF90, which debuted as a coupe before introducing a convertible variant, Ferrari has simultaneously launched both the Testarossa coupe and the Testarossa Spider.
The name “849 Testarossa” carries deep significance. The “8” signifies the V8 engine, “49” represents the displacement of each cylinder in centiliters, and “Testarossa”—a name synonymous with Ferrari’s historic models—derives from the iconic red-painted cam covers.
The Ferrari 849 Testarossa boasts an aerodynamically focused design inspired by Ferrari’s legendary heritage. The rear end, with its “twin-tail” styling, evokes classic race cars like the Ferrari 512 S. Dual rear wings and an active spoiler optimize downforce at high speeds.
The side panels omit the traditional Testarossa slats due to modern safety regulations, ensuring compliance without compromising aesthetics.
Ferrari offers the Assetto Fiorano package for performance enthusiasts, featuring carbon-fiber components, Multimatic suspension, racing stripes, and enhanced aerodynamics for track-ready capabilities.
The 849 Spider features a retractable hardtop that operates in just 14 seconds, even at speeds up to 45 km/h. The convertible mechanism adds approximately 90 kg to the Spider’s weight compared to the coupe.
Inside, Ferrari embraces minimalism, eliminating a central infotainment screen. All entertainment, navigation, and connectivity functions are integrated into the digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. A secondary display for the passenger shows speed and driving modes.
The gear selector mimics classic manual shifters, a detail appreciated by purists. Three seat options are available, including two carbon-fiber variants for weight reduction. The Thailand showcase features standard seats.
The steering wheel replaces controversial touch controls with physical buttons for critical functions like ignition, menu navigation, and media, enhancing precision at high speeds.
Under the hood, a twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine delivers 819 hp, complemented by three electric motors adding 217 hp for a combined output exceeding 1,035 hp. This hybrid system enables a 0–100 km/h sprint in 2.2 seconds, 200 km/h in 6.3 seconds, and a top speed surpassing 330 km/h.
The all-wheel-drive system dynamically distributes torque for optimal traction. In electric-only mode, the front axle propels the vehicle up to 24 km at speeds up to 130 km/h.
