Kia Telluride 2026 Ditches V6 Engine in Favor of Turbo and Hybrid Powertrains

Beyond its significant design overhaul, the 2026 Telluride introduces a hybrid variant for the first time, while completely phasing out the previous naturally aspirated V6 engine.

The new generation adopts a boxier design language, replacing the previous soft curves. Flattened body panels, slightly flared wheel arches, and a sleeker D-pillar give the SUV a more robust and assertive stance.

The signature vertical headlights remain, but the grille has been completely redesigned with a thicker, deeper structure. The slim, body-length taillights evoke a Range Rover-like premium feel, elevating the overall aesthetic compared to its predecessor.

The standard model features a vertical-slat grille with aerodynamic closures. The X-Pro variant, however, exudes off-road readiness with a block-style grille, exposed tow hooks, a raised roof rack, and all-terrain tires, emphasizing its rugged capabilities.

Inside, the 2026 Telluride’s cabin is entirely reimagined, drawing inspiration from the EV9. The minimalist dashboard houses dual 12.3-inch screens under a single panel, complemented by a four-spoke steering wheel and a column-mounted gear selector, freeing up central space.

Increased vehicle dimensions provide more legroom across all three rows. Kia highlights enhanced seating configurability, prioritizing comfort and practicality for long journeys.

The first-generation Telluride utilized a naturally aspirated V6 engine producing 291 horsepower. The new model abandons this setup in favor of two options:

The first is a 2.5L turbocharged engine delivering 274 horsepower and 421 Nm of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, it offers front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Certain AWD variants include an E-LSD and center differential lock for optimized traction across various conditions.

The second option is a hybrid powertrain combining a 2.5L turbocharged engine with an electric motor and a 1.65 kWh lithium-ion battery, generating a combined 329 horsepower and 459 Nm of torque. This system pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission, AWD, and an e-DTVC electronic torque vectoring system. A Stay Mode allows the vehicle to run the air conditioning, lights, and audio for approximately 20 minutes on battery power alone, without starting the engine.

Kia estimates the hybrid variant’s fuel efficiency at around 35 mpg (6.7 L/100 km), with an expected range of approximately 965 km on a full tank.

The Kia Telluride 2026 is set to launch at the Los Angeles Auto Show, with deliveries commencing in Q1 2026. Kia confirms that an all-electric version remains absent, as the EV9 continues to fulfill that role.
