Recently, the Japanese automaker unveiled teaser images of the third-generation Lexus GX for the Southeast Asian market.
The Lexus GX, which made its global debut in June 2023, is positioned between the LX and RX in Lexus’s lineup. Built on the GA-F body-on-frame platform—shared with the Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser—the new GX promises enhanced performance and durability.
At launch, the third-generation Lexus GX offers two powertrain options. The first is a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 gasoline engine, delivering 415 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission identical to the LX’s.
The second option is a 2.4L turbocharged hybrid system with an electric motor, likely mirroring the i-Force Max Hybrid setup from the Toyota Tacoma. This configuration produces 326 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque, supported by a 1.87 kWh NiMH battery.
A standout feature of the new GX is the Overtrail variant, designed for rugged off-road capabilities. Equipped with all-terrain tires and the E-KDSS (Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System)—first seen on the Land Cruiser 300—this system independently locks or unlocks front and rear stabilizers, enhancing flexibility, wheel articulation, and off-road performance. The Overtrail also boasts approach, breakover, and departure angles of 26°, 23°, and 23°, respectively, underscoring its off-road prowess.
Upon its Southeast Asian launch, the third-generation Lexus GX will join the brand’s SUV lineup, including the LBX, NX, RX, and the electric RZ. This addition not only diversifies Lexus’s portfolio but also strengthens its presence in the three-row, full-size SUV segment—a category gaining traction in markets like Malaysia.
