Recently, Land Rover Vietnam confirmed the launch of a new Defender variant on December 20th.

This is likely the mid-life upgrade of the Defender, which debuted globally in May 2025.

On the brand’s official website, details about the new Defender have surfaced, featuring MHEV, PHEV, and twin-turbo V8 engine options, indicating its readiness for distribution in the Vietnamese market.

Overall, the new Defender retains much of its predecessor’s design, with subtle refinements to the front and rear lighting clusters and new alloy wheels.

The Defender Octa stands out as the most performance-focused variant, equipped with the 6D Dynamics chassis system. This setup reduces body roll and optimizes ground clearance for off-road capabilities. Compared to the standard Defender, the Octa offers 28 mm more ground clearance, a 68.5 mm wider track, and redesigned control arms for increased rigidity. It also features a dedicated active suspension system and 15.7-inch front brakes with Brembo 6-piston calipers for enhanced stopping power in harsh conditions.

The interior of the new Defender receives minor updates, including a larger 13.1-inch central touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity. The center console has been redesigned with a concealed sliding compartment for storage. The Signature Suite package introduces removable side storage bags and cable management solutions for added convenience. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, and dashboard layout remain unchanged.

Powering the Defender 2026 are familiar engine configurations. The mild-hybrid variant retains the 3.0L gasoline engine, delivering 395 hp and 550 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The plug-in hybrid model features a 2.0L gasoline engine producing 295 hp, combined with a 137 hp electric motor. Total output reaches 398 hp and 640 Nm of torque. Its 13.1 kWh battery enables an all-electric range of approximately 37 km.

The flagship Defender Octa is powered by BMW’s twin-turbo 4.4L V8 engine, generating 626 hp and 750 Nm of torque. This enables the off-road SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
