Honda plans to introduce its Power Pack Exchanger e: battery swapping system in Vietnam by 2026, catering to electric motorcycles with interchangeable batteries.
This move is a pivotal step in Honda’s motorcycle electrification strategy for the Vietnamese market.
The Power Pack Exchanger e:, developed and commercialized by Honda since 2022, revolutionizes battery management. Instead of waiting hours for charging, users can swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones in minutes, mirroring the convenience of refueling traditional motorcycles.
Technically, the Power Pack Exchanger e: consists of modular metal cabinets with multiple compartments for storing and charging batteries. These compartments are angled for easy access and to prevent battery drops. Each battery is independently managed by a Battery Management System (BMS), which continuously monitors temperature, voltage, and charging current to ensure safety and stability.
The system is designed to be dustproof, waterproof, and resilient to urban weather conditions. It integrates AC-DC chargers, safety sensors, and electronic-mechanical locks. The entire network is connected to Honda’s cloud management platform, enabling real-time battery status tracking, ready-to-use battery allocation, and user management. Centralized charging also extends battery lifespan and reduces risks compared to home charging.
In Vietnam, Honda’s electric models utilizing interchangeable batteries include the Honda CUV e:, launched in October 2024, and the Benly e: delivery bike, operational since 2021 through partnerships with Vietnam Post and Lotteria. Honda Vietnam announced that the Power Pack Exchanger e: will commence operations in early 2026.
Currently, Honda has approximately 18 dealerships nationwide supporting battery swaps for the CUV e:, but these locations still use individual chargers rather than the Power Pack Exchanger e: system.
Battery swapping for electric motorcycles in Vietnam has been attempted but remains niche. VinFast piloted the model in 2020 with the Ludo, Impes, and Klara S, suspending it in late 2022 due to low demand. In 2025, VinFast revived the concept through partner V-Green, targeting service-oriented customers. Selex Motor has maintained its battery swapping system since 2023 for delivery bikes, while TMT plans to enter the market in 2025 with swapping stations at gas stations.
Honda’s upcoming deployment of the Power Pack Exchanger e: is expected to significantly enhance Vietnam’s electric motorcycle infrastructure, particularly for users requiring frequent and rapid charging.
