On December 11th, Thaco Auto officially unveiled the first details of the new-generation Mazda CX-5 in the Vietnamese market.

The new-generation Mazda CX-5, which debuted globally in July 2025 and was showcased at a Japanese exhibition in October, has made Vietnam the first Southeast Asian country to welcome this model—even before its introduction in the U.S.

According to the plan, the vehicle will officially launch in Vietnam starting November 2026. The new-generation Mazda CX-5 brought to the country is a display model, not yet the commercial version. Imported directly from Japan, it remains unclear whether the upcoming commercial version will continue to be imported or assembled domestically.

The new-generation Mazda CX-5 boasts overall dimensions of 4,690 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,775 mm. Compared to the current generation, the new model is 100 mm longer, 15 mm wider, 15 mm taller, and has a 75 mm longer wheelbase. These enhancements promise a more spacious rear seating area and luggage compartment, catering to the preferences of Vietnamese consumers.

In contrast to its predecessor, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 exudes a sleeker and more modern aesthetic, embodying the refined “Kodo – Soul of Motion” design philosophy with a focus on luxury. The extended body and balanced proportions evoke a resemblance to premium European SUVs.

Inside, the cabin of the 2026 Mazda CX-5 showcases a shift toward minimalism and modernity. A prominent 15.6-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard, featuring the latest infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A fully digital instrument cluster replaces the traditional analog setup, offering drivers a more intuitive interaction experience.

The redesigned three-spoke steering wheel features a modern, flat Mazda logo. Soft materials and matte metal accents adorn the interior, elevating the cabin’s luxury feel. Additional premium features include a panoramic sunroof, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system.

Powering the new-generation CX-5 is a naturally aspirated 2.5L gasoline engine, delivering 140 horsepower and 238 Nm of torque, paired with a 24V mild-hybrid system. This engine is mated to a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. Mazda also offers an alternative 2.5L gasoline engine option for select variants.

Some sales advisors have hinted that the new CX-5 in Vietnam will feature a hybrid powertrain, though detailed specifications remain unconfirmed.

Speculation suggests that the premium version of the Mazda CX-5 could reach up to 1.1 billion VND, significantly higher than the current model’s price range of 749–979 million VND.
