VinSpeed and Siemens Mobility GmbH Officially Sign Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation and Technology Transfer Agreement.

This marks a strategic move by VinSpeed to master high-speed rail development capabilities, laying the groundwork for the transfer of cutting-edge global technologies. It aims to promote localization and gradually build a modern, internationally-standardized transportation infrastructure for Vietnam.

Under the agreement, Siemens Mobility, a global leader in high-speed rail technology and solutions, will design, supply, and integrate trains alongside critical rail systems, including signaling, communication, and power supply. Siemens Mobility will also collaborate on maintenance for the trains and systems they provide, transferring technology to VinSpeed’s projects with a focus on maximizing localization.

Additionally, VinSpeed and Siemens Mobility have signed a Framework Agreement for the supply of trains and related systems for the Hanoi – Quang Ninh and Ben Thanh – Can Gio high-speed rail projects.

For these routes, Siemens Mobility plans to provide the Velaro Novo, their newest and most advanced high-speed train model.

The Velaro Novo is a distributed-power EMU train, representing the most advanced high-speed rail technology developed by Siemens Mobility. Designed for speeds of up to 350 km/h, its wide, optimized tube-shaped body increases passenger capacity by at least 10% compared to previous generations and other high-speed trains. This enhances passenger experience and boosts revenue per trip for operators.

Beyond operational efficiency, the Velaro Novo excels in sustainability. Its energy consumption is reduced by approximately 30% compared to older models, lowering emissions and operational costs. The train’s superior climbing ability suits Vietnam’s hilly terrain, as well as urban and coastal environments.

Equipped with ETCS Level 2 signaling and ATO automatic train operation technology, the Velaro Novo enhances safety, optimizes energy use, and allows for increased service frequency. This meets the future operational demands of the Hanoi – Quang Ninh and Ben Thanh – Can Gio high-speed rail lines.

Mr. Pham Thieu Hoa, CEO of VinSpeed, stated: “Our strategic partnership with Siemens Mobility is a crucial step in developing modern transportation infrastructure projects in Vietnam. Combining VinSpeed’s project execution capabilities and local market expertise with Siemens Mobility’s global experience and technology will establish a strong foundation for realizing internationally-standardized high-speed rail lines. This will drive economic and social development, improving the quality of life for Vietnamese citizens.”

Mr. Michael Peter, Global CEO of Siemens Mobility GmbH, added: “Siemens is proud to support VinSpeed in realizing Vietnam’s first high-speed rail line. The Velaro Novo, our latest high-speed train, combines proven global reliability with advanced technology, reducing energy consumption by up to 30%, lowering lifecycle costs, and offering superior passenger comfort. This comprehensive project, featuring modern rail infrastructure and advanced trains, can transform rail travel for millions, significantly enhancing experiences and quality of life. It also creates industry opportunities, fostering long-term economic, tourism, and industrial growth in the region. Together with VinSpeed, Siemens aims to position Vietnam as a leader in high-speed rail technology.”

As part of Vingroup’s Infrastructure Division, VinSpeed is dedicated to pioneering high-speed rail and modern transportation projects in Vietnam. With a focus on cutting-edge technology, efficiency, and sustainability, VinSpeed aims to lead the transformation of Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure, shaping the future of its rail industry.
